Call Us Crazy - Culpepper To New England?

Call Us Crazy - Culpepper To New England? Let’s face it folks, Tom Brady is gone. He’s out for the season with a torn ACL. Now, the fantasy world awaits what’s next with New England. How will the Patriots handle the situation? Will Matt Cassel take the helm, or will New England bring in someone like Chris Simms, or even Daunte Culpepper to take the reigns?

What? Yep, that’s right folks - Daunte Culpepper. Look, I know he recently and abruptly announced his retirement from the NFL, and apparently has some anger issues after not being picked up by anyone this off-season, but I wouldn’t put anything past the Patriots.

Culpepper has a huge history with Randy Moss, whom New England also saved from a putrid situation and resurrected back into stardom. C-Pepp is no slouch. He’s a three time pro bowler, who is only a four seasons removed from a 4,700 yard, 39 TD season. At age 31, he still has a lot left in the tank, and if given the chance, he could be very successful in New England.

Even though in the past, it’s been Bill Belichick’s style to groom his own players - a la Matt Cassel - and allow them to fill in when injuries occur, this situation may be very different. Word is that the team has already considered bringing in former Buccaneers signal caller Chris Simms for a workout, a clear cut sign that they’re not sold on Cassel.

In order for New England to make a serious run, they’ll need to do something. Either revamp their entire offensive strategy, to feature the run to set up the pass, and become much more conservative with their offense. Or, bring in someone with some serious experience and try to keep their spread offense alive.

Let the push for Pepp begin in New England. If Belichick can save Moss, he can save the man who has connected for dozens of TDs with Moss over the years. Wouldn’t that be poetic?
