Get Ready To See Sage Rosenfels

Get Ready To See Sage Rosenfels In Week 3, the Minnesota Vikings made a QB switch from Tarvaris Jackson to Gus Frerotte. Fortunately for their coaching staff, it resulted in a 20-10 Week 3 victory over the Carolina Panthers. Folks, the reason I’m telling you this is because the Houston Texans need to do the exact same thing.

Through two games, the Texans are 0-2, and ranked in the bottom 10 in passing offense. Usually, I wouldn’t blame it all on the QB, but in this case, Schaub is simply not playing with confidence. There were opportunities for him to make things happen against a very tough Tennessee Titans defense in Week 3, but instead of stepping up to the plate, he hung onto the ball too long (sacked three times) and forced things constantly (intercepted three times). At 0-2, head coach Gary Kubiak now has a decision to make. You have to figure that he didn’t trade 30 year old back-up Sage Rosenfels to Minnesota this off-season for no reason.

With Schaub having thrown for only 390 yards, one score and five picks already this season, look for Kubiak to make a switch to Rosenfels - and for it to benefit the Texans. The sixth year veteran from Iowa State put up very solid fantasy digits last season, tossing 15 scores in only nine games. With the bye week behind them, and the Jags, Colts, Dolphins, Lions, Bengals and Vikings coming up, there’s not only a need for a change, but a solid fantasy opportunity against some defenses that aren’t exactly known for being the best against the pass.

Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter owners need to relax and hang on before they draw conclusions about the Texans offense.

Obviously, there is a huge bright spot in rookie Steve Slaton, who torched the Titans for 116 ground yards and a score, along with four receptions. All the Texans need is confident QB play, and they can turn their season around.

Fantasy owners need to keep an eye on the news coming out of Houston this week. If there is a switch to Rosenfels, he will become a very solid QB2, borderline QB1 depending on the match-up each week. Sage has much better mobility than Schaub, and is a threat to rush for solid yardage every week, in addition to tossing the rock for multiple TDs (in three of nine games last season, he had two or more scores). If Kubiak pulls the trigger, like Brad Childress did last week, pick up Rosenfels.
