It’s been one heck of an off-season for Raiders RB LaMont Jordan. Not only has his own team told him that he’s not welcome at practice or in their facility, but they also refuse to release him. Now, our sources are telling us just how hard it will be for Jordan to find a new home when the Raiders finally do set him free.
Raiders owner Al Davis reportedly doesn’t want Jordan to get hurt, which means it’s highly likely that the Raiders will try and trade him once the preseason starts. The problem with this logic is that there are already several veteran backs including Shaun Alexander, Kevin Jones, Ron Dayne, Travis Henry and Cedric Benson, who are looking for new homes. It’s a horrible market to try and deal an RB - especially one like Jordan, who hasn’t really done much since his spectacular breakout 2005 campaign. LaMont is in limbo folks, and unless a team like Houston or Denver ends up taking a chance on him, he’ll have absolutely zero fantasy value in 2008 and beyond.
Which Veteran Back Will Sign First?Speaking of Alexander, Jones, Dayne, Henry and Benson, there has been much curiosity building among the fantasy community regarding which of them will actually latch on with a team first. Our sources tell us that none of them are likely to get an opportunity until the first major injury is suffered by a significant runner. Teams like Cleveland, Chicago, New England and Detroit could use some more depth at RB, so those are the most likely suitors for the “single” backs. In terms of which will sign first, it’s actually very likely that it could be Dayne. He has the least amount of concerns and actually had the best season last year out of all the names mentioned.
Tony Romo Confident Entering 2008 -Despite losing to the Giants in the NFC Divisional playoffs last season, Cowboys QB Tony Romo is extremely confident heading into 2008. He has reportedly worked on new throwing motions, and focused hard on improvement, despite the rumors that his focus has been elsewhere - such has golf and women. Our sources are confident that Romo will improve upon his 2007 numbers, and lead the Cowboys to their first playoff win since 1996.
Rookie Will Franklin To Start For Chiefs -Our sources tell us that rookie WR Will Franklin, a 6′1″ burner from Mizzou, is a shoe-in to start opposite Dwayne Bowe in 2008. His only competition at this point is Devard Darling, and many believe he’ll be a perfect fit. He’s shown great speed, hands and ability to pick up the offense thus far in off-season practices, and is definitely someone fantasy owners should pay close attention to in training camp. He’s likely to be a solid dynasty pick, and a decent late-round seasonal sleeper.
Don’t Overlook Delhomme -Panthers 33 year old QB Jake Delhomme is reportedly feeling great after undergoing Tommy John surgery to repair his right elbow this off-season. Delhomme has told media that his arm feels very strong and that he’ll be back ready to go full speed in 2008. Our sources tell us that Delhomme could be in for the best statistical season of his career, due to - believe it or not - increase emphasis on the run game. We hear that the presence of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, and the re-dedication John Fox has to using the run to set up the pass, will ultimately amount to more bigger plays for Delhomme throwing the rock. The fact that Muhsin Muhammad is back (and looking great by the way) and D.J. Hackett is on the squad now, doesn’t hurt Delhomme’s case either.
