VJax Is Ready For A Breakout Season

VJax Is Ready For A Breakout Season Our sources tell us that San Diego Chargers 6′5″, 241 lb. WR Vincent Jackson is primed and ready for an absolutely huge statistical campaign in 2008, despite the fact that he’s yet to play in the preseason due to injury.

We hear that he’s absolutely healthy, and has been looking phenomenal in practice. Our sources also mention that Jackson has continued to develop a solid rapport with Philip Rivers and plans to continue where he left off in the playoffs last season, where he hauled in more than 20 passes for 300 yards and two TDs in three contests. The scoop on Jackson is that 2008 - his fourth year - will be developmentally more like his third season, since he was such a raw project coming out of Northern Colorado. This should give fantasy owners more patience with him heading into this season. Trust us, patience with him will pay off.

Remember This Name: Marcus Henry - Two years ago at this time, in this very column, we told you about a little known wide receiver named Marques Colston. Our sources had told us that Colston would be an absolute stud. We were the first to report that, and we were right about it (He-Man). Now, we have another name for fantasy owners to stick under their hats or keep in their back pockets. Jets sixth round WR Marcus Henry has been very impressive throughout the entire off-season, and head coach Eric Mangini is extremely excited about what he brings to the offense, according to our sources. Henry is 6′4″, 207 lbs. and can run a plethora of routes and be used as a huge red zone target. He hasn’t seen much preseason action, although he did haul in four passes for 42 yards against the Redskins in preseason Week 2. This kid is someone to watch in deep seasonal leagues, and someone for dynasty owners to add late in rookie drafts.

Packers To Stick With Brohm As Back-up - Although it may seem risky to roll into the season with Aaron Rodgers as a starter and rookie Brian Brohm as a back-up, our sources tell us that Packers GM Ted Thompson is more than content his young QB situation and does not plan on adding a veteran back-up. Our sources also noted that the team is extremely happy with the way Rodgers has played this preseason, and see him as a player who will get better as the game goes on. Translation - they’re not worried about him making mistakes or seeming uncomfortable in the pocket during quick snippets of action.

Jacobs Being Overlooked? - There has been a lot of concern throughout the fantasy community about Giants 26 year old RB Brandon Jacobs. He was injured quite a bit last season, and back-ups Derrick Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw played extremely well when given the opportunity. Our sources believe however - and we agree - that Jacobs could be on the verge of having one of the most monster fantasy seasons ever. He only carried the rock 200 times last year, and rushed for 5.0 yards per carry. Sick numbers people. Every time this guy gets the ball, he’s a threat to score - period. For the record, we like Jacobs as a potential difference maker in 2008. It’s tough though, because we don’t recommend drafting him too early. But he’s a freaking steal in round four.

Also, in case you’re wondering who is true primary back-up is for handcuff purposes - don’t get it twisted - it’s Ward.
