Our sources tell us that the Dolphins are extremely high on second year QB - former 40th overall pick in the NFL Draft - John Beck. With Jake Long now slotted to play left tackle and protect his blind side, Tony Sparano and Bill Parcells reportedly expect big things from the former BYU star. New OC Dan Henning’s offense is pretty darn conservative, but fantasy owners can look for Philip Rivers circa 2006 digits out of Beck if all goes well. Yes folks, this means John Beck could actually be a worthy fantasy back-up QB in deep leagues next year.
LaMont Jordan To Be Released Following NFL Draft - The Seahawks recently cut ties with veteran RB Shaun Alexander, and the Raiders are expected to do the same with another former fantasy star RB, LaMont Jordan. The soon-to-be 30 year old Jordan has recently become expendable, as the Raiders have inked Justin Fargas, Dominic Rhodes, and have high hopes for 2007 fourth round pick Michael Bush. Our sources tell us that cutting Jordan would save the Raiders close to $5 million in salary cap space, and that it’s a total no-brainer to happen following the draft. The Detroit Lions and Houston Texans are two possible destinations for Jordan, but the front runner according our sources is San Diego. The Chargers not only need a back-up RB after the relocation of Michael Turner to Atlanta, but Jordan has a great relationship with Norv Turner, his offensive coordinator in Oakland in 2005.
Jason Campbell Is Overwhelmed - Word is that fourth year QB Jason Campbell is incredibly confused and overwhelmed with trying to learn his third new offensive system since getting to the pro level. New head coach Jim Zorn’s West Coast system is extremely different and equally as complex as former OC Al Saunders’ scheme. On top of basically teaching Campbell a whole new language, Zorn is now apparently trying to tinker with his footwork. Our sources expect an extremely difficult year for Campbell.
The Tuna Loves Ricky - Hey, If Mike Ditka loved him once upon a time, why can’t Bill Parcells grow fond of him? Our sources tell us that Parcells has developed a fond respect for 31 year old RB Ricky Williams. The respect has reportedly grown to the point where he and head coach Tony Sparano want to give Williams an opportunity to flat out split carries with Ronnie Brown in 2008. While it would be a miracle for Williams to actually stay healthy for a full season after not having really played in the NFL since 2005, he has apparently looked great this off-season after recovering from a torn chest muscle. If word surrounding Williams continues to stay positive heading into August, we’ll recommend him as a solid late round sleeper in seasonal drafts.
