Boldin Situation Heats Up

Boldin Situation Heats Up Anquan Boldin wants out of Arizona. He’s stating that he simply cannot get along with head coach Ken Whisenhunt, and he will not re-sign with the team. His slimy agent, Drew Rosenhaus is asking the organization to consider making a trade happen now. This could go one of three ways.

Look, it’s basically become an everyday occurrence for another one of Rosenhaus’ clients to demand a trade, and this isn’t even the first time this has happened this off-season with Boldin. So, when fantasy owners view news like this, what should they do? How should they act towards Boldin? Where should they draft him? Should they trade him?

Well, I see this going one of three ways. Let’s start with the least likely scenario. Boldin gets traded before the season starts - to a team like Dallas or Philly, who both have pieces to deal, needs at WR and have expressed interest in him in the past. If something like this happens, it could be HUGE for Boldin’s value. He’d all of the sudden be on a contending squad with an outstanding quarterback, and would likely be elevated and featured more in a new offense. He’s a versatile player who can contribute in any number of ways, and I honestly believe that a new team would probably get him the ball more than the Cards do now.

In short, a trade would be great for Boldin’s fantasy value, however, that’ the least likely scenario.

Another way I see this going is for Boldin to play like it’s a contract year - because in essence, it kind of is if he doesn’t sign an extension. He can go out, light a fire under his own backside and dominate defenses in spite of his relationship with his coach. This scenario has a better chance of happening than the previous one.

Unfortunately, a third way this could go, which I believe has an equally strong chance of happening as the one described in the paragraph above, is for it to end the way it did with T.O. in Philly in 2006 and Keyshawn Johnson in Tampa Bay in 2003.

Right now, however, owners should treat Boldin as a solid WR1 and top end WR2. Based on his track record, he’ll fight through this scenario on the field, letting his play do the talking - rather than jabbering his mouth off the field like some players.

All-in-all, block out the mess and treat the Boldin scenario as if it didn’t exist. When the games begin, cross your fingers and hope that scenario three doesn’t happen. With Boldin, the reward still far outweighs the risk.
