Have you ever actually watched a Brandon Marshall highlight video? If you ever find the two minutes to do so, I guarantee you’ll start to want him on your fantasy squad - but in the past two days, fantasy owners have learned good news and bad news regarding his 2008 status.
First, we reported that we didn’t think Denver Broncos 6′4″ freak of nature WR Brandon Marshall would be ready by training camp, after severing tendons and ligaments in his right arm during a living room wrestling match that involved a McDonald’s bag and a television.
Then, we reported that Marshall couldn’t even wipe himself with his right hand after going number two - his own words. That was about two weeks ago folks. Now, however, it appears that Marshall will be ready to go for training camp, as he’s out telling media that he feels great. He even predicted another 100-catch season. In a matter of days, he’s gone from being at risk of missing some time due to diaper rash, to all of the sudden back on track for 100 balls.
Had this been the end of the story, we’d have pegged him as a minimum 100-catch guy and moved him up in our rankings accordingly. At 24 years old, assuming he has no lingering affects of his off-season surgery, or any future injury concerns, he looked like a top five WR for years to come. Not many people will be able to stop this guy when he’s on the field, and as Jay Cutler improves, Marshall will get closer and closer to posting Randy Moss type numbers.
Yep, after the good news, this appeared to be the last chance that dynasty owners would have to add this guy to their roster “on the cheap,” as his value appeared to be back on the rise after the news of his quick recovery from his battle with the Hamburgler.
But then came the bad news.
After all of that was learned and analyzed, the news then broke that Marshall was arrested earlier this off-season for battery. What? Yep. Apparently, on March 6, prior to his arm mishap, he was arrested for hitting his girlfriend. His attorney is shaking this off, but this was his third arrest.
News apparently took a while to travel, but now that it has reached it’s destination, it seems very likely that Marshall will be subject to suspension by the league, and could miss two, three or four games. His fate now rests in the hands of commish Roger Goodell, regardless of what happens in court.
Now, instead of being that sure fire dynasty prospect we spoke of, Marshall’s 2008 season is in question, and he’s another mishap away from being suspended a full season. Proceed with caution.
