Should You Buy Low On Braylon & Others?

It’s no secret that the Cleveland Browns offense is off to a pitiful start in their first two games of the 2008 NFL season. Wide receiver Braylon Edwards, who was second in the NFL with 16 TD catches last season, only has five catches for 46 yards this season, and has had a case of the dropsies, but should fantasy owners look to trade for him now, while his value is low?
Sure, assuming his “value” still is low in your league. It’s likely that owners of the 25 year old fourth year stud are going to stand pat and stay high on him despite this massively disappointing start to the season. However, there may be some impatient owner out there somewhere who just wants to get rid of Braylon for a cheap price, and even with a tough road ahead for Cleveland - you should look to be the owner that snags him for a bargain.
Other guys like Detroit’s Roy Williams, Cincinnati’s Carson Palmer and T.J. Houshmandzadeh, St. Louis’ Torry Holt and even Pittsburgh’s Rashard Mendenhall might also be solid “buy low” candidates, as they all currently have their own causes for concern that could very easily be wiped out within a matter of weeks.
Wherever there’s buy low candidates, there’s also “sell high” guys.
Players off to a pretty amazing start this year that are unlikely to keep it up include San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (who has thrown three TD passes in each of his first two games), Tampa Bay RB Earnest Graham (who has averaged 8.3 yards per carry), Dallas rookie RB Felix Jones (who has scored a TD in each of his first two games), and one even has to wonder how much longer Broncos QB Jay Cutler can keep up this amazing “He-Man” pace.
Bears rookie RB Matt Forte has looked phenomenal in Weeks 1 and 2, but seasonal owners may not get much more from him this season. If you’re not in a long term league and can package Forte for a proven stud RB or WR, look to do so at some point within the next two weeks.
