Experts Draft: Lynch Is Our 1st Pick

Experts Draft: Lynch Is Our 1st Pick Okay, so we’ve tried a few different methods in our expert league drafts this year. We’ve in so many different leagues that we’ve picked just about everywhere between 1-12. While Adrian Peterson has been our number one overall choice, we’ve also tried taking Randy Moss in round one, which we think is a solid strategy. But in our most recent draft, our choice was Buffalo’s Marshawn Lynch.

1.1 - Athlon/Grogan’s Fantasy Football - Ladainian Tomlinson, Chargers RB - Dan and Kelly Grogan, who I love and respect and work with on a daily basis, know that I would have taken Adrian Peterson here, but it’s still a solid pick for to of the most well respected people in the fantasy business. LT is likely to have a solid season, he’ll perform more like a second round pick, not a first or second overall pick. While many are still on board, we’re jumping off the LT bandwagon.

1.2 - Junkyard Jake - Adrian Peterson, Vikings RB - Here’s my guy. AP will be the best overall player in fantasy football in 2008, regardless of league scoring format. I’ve seen him slip to fourth overall in some drafts, which is absolutely ridiculous.

1.3 - Expert Fantasy Football - Brian Westbrook, Eagles RB - Not that this pick doesn’t make sense to me, but I don’t really like it. To me, Joseph Addai is clearly the guy here. Yes, Westy is basically the entire Eagles offense, but that can really be a bad thing, especially after several years. He’s hit his statistical peak, and Addai is in a much better, more well rounded offense.

1.4 - FantasyFootballEdge.net - Steven Jackson, Rams RB - SJax is actually great value at fourth overall. He should bounce back from injuries that caused him to have sub-par production in 2007, and word is that his offensive line his very healthy. Expect Jackson to be a legit RB1 in 2008, and don’t worry too much about his current contract situation, as he’s expect to sign a long term deal soon, and report to camp.

1.5 - FantasyFootball.com - Marion Barber, Cowboys RB - We love Barber as much as the next guy, but with Addai still on the board, this pick all of the sudden becomes risky. He’s a goal line beast though, which at least makes him a legit RB1 in all formats.

1.6 - Sports Grumblings - Joseph Addai, Colts RB - Addai, who missed a couple games due to injury last season, has not yet reached his ceiling. He should see a ton of goal line looks this season, and will increase his reception production from 40 in his rookie year and 41 in his second season to 60 or more in year three. Addai is our second overall running back, and we believe he’s a heck of a value at sixth overall.

1.7 - MonsterDraft.com - Frank Gore, 49ers RB - In PPR leagues such as this one, Gore should be a beast in 2008 under new offensive coordinator Mike Martz. The 49ers passing attack should be much improved, which will open up rushing lanes for the physical Gore that haven’t been there in the past. We may see Gore take his game to a whole new level in 2008.

1.8 - FantasyFootballXtreme.com - Willis McGahee, Ravens RB - With Clinton Portis, Marshawn Lynch and Randy Moss still on the board - and several other players we’d rather have, this is a confusing pick. Granted, we’ve jocked McGahee this off-season as much as anyone - citing new OC Cam Cameron’s ability to mold star running backs in to phenoms, however, the confusing thing about this is that “Xtreme” probably could have waited until round two to make this selection.

1.9 - Fantasy Football Golden Boy - Tom Brady, Patriots QB - Sorry Golden Boy, but this is by far the worst pick of the first round. Again, I just don’t understand why anyone would want to take Tom Brady in the first round of a league that awards 3-4 points for passing TDs. He provides no considerable advantage if selected prior to round three. Period.

1.10 - No-Offseason.com - Marshawn Lynch, Bills RB - I felt that even with Randy Moss still on the board, now that Marshawn Lynch is in the clear from a legal standpoint, he’s in for unbelievable things in 2008. Another trend I’ve noticed is that getting into rounds 3-5, it’s incredibly hard to find starting caliber RBs in a lot of these drafts. In the end, it came down to the fact that I thought I could still get stud WRs in rounds 2 and 3, and shore up my RB core in round 4. I did, and if you want to see who I took, sign up for the USP. The Bills plan on featuring Lynch in both the run and the pass this season, and we see him as Steven Jackson circa 2006.

1.11 - Sports Outlaw - Clinton Portis, Redskins RB - We like this pick, as Portis is likely to have a very solid year in Jim Zorn’s offense. RB1s are hard to find, and Portis should definitely produce like one in 2008.

1.12 - Fantasy Draft Edge - Randy Moss, Patriots WR - Moss is a freaking no-brainer here people. He’s a top tier fantasy producer, and it’s not every day you can get one of those with the 12th overall selection. Check out when to draft WRs in the first round.
