Fantasy Football Week 1 - QB Questions

Fantasy Football Week 1 - QB Questions As fantasy owners get ready for Week 1, there are several question marks surrounding the quarterback position. Indy’s Peyton Manning and New England’s Tom Brady haven’t played all pre-season, and Cleveland’s Derek Anderson will attempt to return from a concussion. Also, who will start in Arizona? These issues and more are addressed in our “Week 1 QB Questions” feature.

Fantasy owners want to know…

Question - What’s the deal with Peyton Manning?

Answer - Even though the Colts’ signal caller missed the entire 2008 pre-season with a bursa sac injury in his knee, he has already come out and said that he’ll be ready to start Week 1 against Chicago. Look folks, Manning is a must start. You can’t bench him even if your back-up is Jay Cutler or Donovan McNabb - who we have ranked higher than Manning in our Week 1 rankings. It’s what we call “the stud factor” though - if Manning is active, don’t bench him. You drafted him to play him, so do it. It may not be pretty, but he’ll find a way to throw for 250 yards and two TDs minimum.

Question - What’s the deal with Tom Brady?

Answer - Brady, like Manning, has been out the entire pre-season, and has even been missing from practices and games, nowhere to be found on the sidelines. However, he has maintained that he’ll also be ready for Week 1 against the Chiefs. We’re not high on Brady this week, however, like Manning, if you own him, he must be your starter this week against a weak Chiefs defense.

Question - Will Derek Anderson Be Ready?

Answer - Most likely. He’s been throwing at practice and the Browns have taken it very easy with him, in hopes to have him ready for the season opener against Dallas. We expect him to play, but we honestly don’t like the match-up. If possible, look elsewhere this week at QB.

Question - Is Brett Favre a must-start at Miami?

Answer - Believe it or not - yes. The 38 year old veteran has looked phenomenal this pre-season and is ready to lead the Jets offense to a big day against the ‘Phins in Week 1. We have him as a top five signal caller this week in most formats and love him to start the year well in his new green uniform.

Question - Will Aaron Rodgers fare well against Minnesota?

Answer - Honestly, he’ll be up and down. We expect him to post solid yardage and TD numbers, but to get sacked early and often. He may also be forced into a couple picks. Overall, he’s a solid starter in 12 team leagues.

Question - Which of these QBs concerns us the most in Week 1 - David Garrard, Marc Bulger, Matt Hasselbeck, Jason Campbell?

Answer - All of them equally. We recommend avoiding all of these signal callers in Week 1 if possible.

Question - Who are the top sleeper QBs this week?

Answer - Jon Kitna at Atlanta, Donovan McNabb against St. Louis, JT O’Sullivan against Arizona and JaMarcus Russell against Denver - in that order.
