Last week, we told you not to be worried about the potential holdouts of Packers RB Ryan Grant, and Rams RB Steven Jackson. Well, we are right about one of them already, now there’s only one to go - but we’re still not worried about him either.
Late Saturday night, the Packers agreed to terms with the 25 year old Ryan Grant, securing his long term value and allowing his dynasty and keeper owners to breathe easy. Articles by other fantasy publications started touting second year man Brandon Jackson - who had played well in camp and throughout the off-season with Grant not present - as a threat to Grant’s short term and long term value. We didn’t buy it for a second. And now that Grant is locked up for four years, in a deal worth nearly $30 million - his short term and long term outlook looks phenomenal. We’ve said he’s a legit first round pick in seasonal formats, and an outstanding value in the second round, should he fall there.
While Grant may face more “8 in the box” looks this year than last year, the Packers’ passing attack will still be strong enough under Aaron Rodgers to keep defenses honest, and Grant could be in for a 1,400 yard season. Things could get even better for Grant, however, if the recently reinstated Brett Favre ends up somehow earning the starting gig back in Green Bay this season.
Steven Jackson, a 24 year old consensus top five seasonal fantasy pick, should come to terms with the Rams sometime soon. With Jackson, however, there was no supposed threat of anyone taking away carries, like there was with Grant - so his holdout has always been less of a concern when analyzing his long term value. Second year man Antonio Pittman will get some additional work in SJax’s absence, but is not fantasy-worthy.
