rashard-mendenhall.jpg364 out of 365 days a year, this blog will be fantasy football strategy-related.  But, on a Sunday during the NCAA tournament, I’d like to take some time to reflect upon what fantasy football really means to all of us.  Hopefully, this will give you a little perspective on what this “hobby of obsession” actually adds to your life.  For me, it’s definitely more than jocking the players, following the stats, or putting together the strategy.  Not everyone is fortunate enough to play in a highly competitive league with nine of their best friends - but I am.  My dynasty league with my closest buddies ultimately was the reason I became incredibly obsessed with fantasy football.  At first, it was about wanting to beat them like drums week-in and week-out, which I did for two consecutive years (he-man).  Then, it morphed into a way we could all keep in touch with each other when we all moved throughout the world.

With franchises and owners now in England, Arizona, Atlanta, Boston, Detroit, Tennessee, Denver, Italy, and soon-to-be California, our league is stronger than ever - but, more importanty, our friendships have stayed strong.  Fantasy football gives us a reason to call each other when we maybe otherwise wouldn’t have.  Fantasy football gives us a reason to get together every year one extra time.  The correspondence with my friends is priceless, as we have now clocked countless hours of wonderful conversation about our league…conversation and laughter that I wouldn’t trade or take back for any amount of money.

If you’re still reading this, you’re likely relating to what I’m saying, thinking about how important your league is to you and to your friendships.  If you had to stop playing fantasy football, your life would be different.  Fantasy sports has an impact on more than 30 million Americans every year, and we should be proud of that.  We’re not simply scratching a competitive itch here.  We’re not simply in it to win it.  We’re in it to experience it, and build relationships with people that we otherwise would not have.

At No-Offseason.com, we’re also building a family.  More will become clearer in the coming weeks, when we launch our new website and forum.  Also, the products and services we plan on launching will be based upon building relationships with our readers and continuing to help people not only win their leagues, but have fun doing it.  Finishing on a sappy note, I’m thankful to have fantasy football in my life, and I hope you are to, for more reasons than just trying to win.  Okay, now that’s over and we get back to the strategy stuff tomorrow.
