Wake Up Folks, Winslow Is Fine

kellen-winslow.jpgIf Drew Rosenhaus says something on YouTube, it’s true, right? I’m so sure. But some of the time, what he says makes complete sense…and this, my friends, is one of those times. Rosenhaus represents Browns TE Kellen Winslow, about whom the rumors are swirling this off-season.

Many news outlets have reported that the Cleveland Browns organization “can’t understand why” Winslow isn’t showing up for voluntary team workouts this off-season. Well, No-Offseason.com has the simple answer - because they’re voluntary.

It’s not rocket science, people. Rosenhaus even said so on one of his most recent YouTube rants. Winslow isn’t required to be with the team, so he’s not with the team. He’s in San Diego working out and conditioning on his own, and it’s as simple as that. Could it have a little something to do with the fact that he wants an upgraded contract? Possibly. But, is this a holdout, or perhaps - the most frequent rumor - a sign that his surgically repaired knees aren’t holding up? Absolutely not.

This is starting to feel like Deja freaking vu. Last off-season, many outlets reported that Winslow was a major injury concern, and fantasy owners dropped him ridiculously far in their rankings because of it. We didn’t. We drafted him early in all of our expert leagues - He-Man - and won a few of them because of it. Listen, Winslow hasn’t missed a single game in each of his last two seasons, and he was only listed on the injury report four times last season, and in three of them, he was listed as probable.

You want me to keep going? I will.

He played in the Pro Bowl in February with no pain. His knee procedure this off-season was strictly to clean things up. He wants a new contract, so he’s playing things safe. He’s playing it right this time around.

The bottom line is that Kellen Winslow is not an injury risk, and he’s not a risk to hold out. At age 24, coming off a career year (82 catches, 1,106 yards and five TDs), he’s just entering his prime as a fantasy performer. If other owners in your league want to pass on Winslow because of some phantom concerns, let them, and know that he’s a guy who can help you win a fantasy championship in 2008, as part of one of the NFL’s most explosive up-and-coming offenses.
