We Were Right About, We Were Wrong About

Larry Johnson came alive in Weeks 3 & 4, rushing for 319 yards and three TDs after a horrible start to the season. We told fantasy owners to avoid him in Week 5 as the Chiefs visited the Carolina Panthers. LJ rushed the rock seven times for a grand total of two freaking yards. Find out who else we were right about, and who we missed on in Week 5.
We were right about…
Kyle Orton, Bears QB - Orton, who had five TD passes in two games heading into Week 5, was our sleeper QB of the week. We liked Orton not only because of his hot streak, but because of the match-up against the lowly Detroit Lions defense. The Bears offense did not disappoint in Week 5, as Orton threw for 334 yards, two TDs and zero interceptions. Orton has the Bears’ offense clicking huge and has solid match-ups in the next two weeks against Atlanta and Minnesota. He should be on rosters in all leagues.
Devin Hester, Bears WR - The Bears special teams ace had three catches for 27 yards and a score in Week 4 against the Eagles, and looked like he’d continue to play more offense against the Lions in Week 5. He certainly did, catching five passes for 66 yards and a score. Do to his ability, he’s definitely worth a solid look in all leagues heading into a Week 6 match-up at Atlanta.
Rashied Davis, Bears WR - Even though Davis only had nine catches for less than 100 yards in Weeks 1 through 4, we told owners he’d be a great sleeper WR3 option in deep leagues in Week 5. He led the Bears in receiving, hauling in six passes for 97 yards.
Bobby Engram, Seahawks WR - We recommended that Engram’s PPR owners give him a good look this week in the Seahawks’ match-up at New York. The Seahawks’ WR who had missed the first four weeks with a shoulder injury came back strong in his season debut, catching eight balls for 61 yards. He looks like a solid option for the rest of the season, assuming Matt Hasselbeck’s injuries aren’t too serious.
Domenik Hixon, Giants WR - At the last minute, we told our Ultimate Strategist Package subscribers, that we loved Dominik Hixon, after he was named the starter opposite Amani Toomer this week. Hixon hauled in four passes for 102 yards and a TD in the first half, but missed the entire second half with a concussion. We just don’t see him being a factor moving forward, however, as Plaxico Burress returns next week, and Sinorice Moss (four catches, 45 yards and two TDs) played well in his absence.
Amani Toomer, Giants WR - Toomer, who we recommended as a very solid emergency bye week fill in, hauled in four passes for more than 60 yards. He’s been highly involved in the Giants’ passing attack for the last four weeks and is playing at a high level. Toomer should be a solid WR3 option next week on a Monday night game against Cleveland.
Andre Johnson, Texans WR - Plenty of fantasy owners reached out to us over the last couple weeks with their concerns about Andre Johnson. The Texans’ stud WR got off to a pretty poor start, but we knew that owners should stay the course and keep him in their line-ups. Even with a pre-game switch to Sage Rosenfels due to Matt Schaub’s illness, Johnson broke out and hauled in nine balls for 131 yards and a score. With phenomenal match-ups in the coming weeks, A.J. is someone to own and start without question.
Matt Forte, Bears RB - The rookie from Tulane has had a heck of a season thus far, and was pretty much a no-brainer against the Lions this week. We called him a must-start, and had him in our top five RBs in pretty much all league formats. Although he only carried the rock 15 times for 36 yards, he had a rushing TD, and four catches for 25 yards and a receiving score. Forte continues to be a top tier RB2 and flex option.
Carolina Panthers defense - Two interceptions, three sacks and two forced fumbles, but more importantly in most leagues - a shutout - helped owners of the Panthers’ defense have a great week. We told owners to start Carolina’s D, while also moving them into our top seven defenses this week.
Lance Briggs, Bears LB - Even though Briggs has been a bit disappointing this season, we recommended to all of his IDP owners that they absolutely start him this week against the Lions. Eight tackles and a sack later, we were definitely right about Lance Briggs.
Alex Brown, Bears DE - Maybe it was too easy of a call against the Detroit Lions, but Alex Brown hasn’t exactly been a very solid IDP option this season. We told fantasy owner to go with him this week, and he delivered, racking up four solo tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.
Charles Tillman, Bears DB - Tillman was questionable up until game time. We updated our Ultimate Strategist Package members about him being active and a must start against Detroit. Tillman only had two tackles, but he returned an interception for a TD, and pick sixes are worth a lot in all IDP leagues.
Felix Jones, Cowboys RB - It may have been a risky call, but we told all Felix Jones owners to start him this week against the Bengals. In the first half, the Cowboys’ speedster had six carries for 65 yards and a score. He’ll continue to be a very valuable piece of all fantasy teams moving forward - especially deep leagues with flex positions.
Dallas Clark, Colts TE - We told owners that Clark would be a top TE option in Week 5 at Houston. He got off to a great start, and ended with five catches for 81 yards. More importantly, Indy looks like they’re back on track, meaning Clark and teammates Peyton Manning and Joseph Addai look like must-starts moving forward.
We were wrong about…
Eli Manning, Giants QB - We weren’t very high on Giants QB Eli Manning this week, but he proved us wrong, with a very solid game, tossing the rock for 267 yards, two scores and zero interceptions.
Michael Turner, Falcons RB - We were definitely not high on Michael Turner, or the rest of the Falcons offense for that matter, in Week 5. Turner racked up 121 yards and a score, while Roddy White hauled in eight balls for 132 yards and a score.
