Week 3 Waiver Help: Who To Add

Week 3 Waiver Help: Who To Add Chances are, you may have heard the name Chansi Stuckey at some point over the last six to eight weeks. If not during the preseason, when he played a major role in helping acclimate veteran Brett Favre to the Jets, then surely recently, when he’s hauled in TDs in each of the first two weeks of the 2008 NFL season.

Well, if you don’t know the 24 year old second year man from Clemson, get to know him now, and consider adding him to your fantasy team this week if you’re looking for help at WR. Seasonal owners could consider him a solid WR3 option on Monday night against the recently soft Chargers defense, while dynasty and deep keeper owners might want to pick him up just to stash him away. At 6′0″, 185, we liken him to a James Jones type of player - the type of target that Favre likes to find streaking across the field on a well run crossing pattern, and someone that the defense isn’t paying attention to. Be the first one to Stuckey in your league, as he very easily could become the next Jerricho Cotchery.

We haven’t really been too high on 32 year old Buccaneers veteran WR Ike Hilliard, but with Joey Galloway going down with an ankle injury, he looks like Tampa’s new number one target for the time being. Hilliard has hauled in 10 passes for 86 yards and a score during this young 2008 season thus far, and has actually looked pretty explosive in the process. He’s a decent emergency fill in WR3 in PPR leagues as long as Galloway is out.

Speaking of veteran WRs, one with an insanely good match-up this week is 49ers’ pass catcher Isaac Bruce. The 35 year old not only had a huge game at Seattle last week, hauling in four balls for 153 yards, but he faces the Lions this week, who have given up more yardage that any NFL team not named the St. Louis Rams this season. Look for a huge week from Bruce.

Bruce’s teammate Bryant Johnson may already be gone in your league, but if not, swoop him up right now. The 27 year old has come alive recently in Mike Martz’s offense, and should continue to be a top target for J.T. O’Sullivan. Johnson has plenty of longterm value as long as Martz is in San Francisco.

Our captain obvious waiver pick of the week is Darren “Mighty Mouse” Sproles in San Diego. The smaller version of Brian Westbrook is one of the NFL’s most explosive players, and after garnering 53 yards on seven carries and two receptions for 72 yards and a TD in Week 2 against Denver, he’s certainly roster-worthy. Sproles may not be a consistent fantasy option all season, but with LaDainian Tomlinson likely limited do to turf toe, he’s certainly worth picking up this week and using as a flex option in deep leagues.

A couple things I noticed about IDPs during Week 2. Fantasy owners that are always looking for solid young defensive ends should take notice to both of last season’s first round draft picks, Tampa’s Gaines Adams and Atlanta’s Jamaal Anderson. Even though Anderson has yet to record a sack this season, he actually racked up an impressive six solo tackles against the Buccaneers in Week 2, making him an intriguing waiver wire possibility for IDP owners. Adams, on the other hand, had six tackles and two sacks, making him a potential snag and start in Week 3.
