Grant Signs, Smith Fights, Games Begin…

August 4, 2008

In a freaking wacky week in the NFL, there was a fight that ended with a star receiver getting suspended, an undrafted RB signed a four year, $30 million contract, and a retired legend returned to a team that had said only days earlier that they did not want him. Sifting through the mess, take a look at who’s fantasy football stock is rising and falling during the first official week of the NFL preseason. Read more

Ranking 2008 Rookie WRs

June 5, 2008

limas-sweed-steelers.jpgSurprisingly, St. Louis’ Donnie Avery was the first WR selected in the 2008 NFL Draft. The speedy route runner from the University of Houston came out of nowhere to become the 33rd overall pick. Just because he was the first pass catcher taken, doesn’t mean it’ll translate to the stat column in 2008. Limas Sweed, however, was the ninth pass catcher taken, and his fantasy value is looking pretty solid heading into 2008. Each season there’s at least one rookie WR who steps up his game and becomes fantasy worthy in his first season, and believe it or not, there is a rhyme or reason to predicting which one it’ll be. Adrian Arrington Could Start In 2008

May 26, 2008

adrian-arrington.jpgYou know that No-Offseason.com is always looking out for fantasy super sleepers, and we believe we’ve found a solid candidate in Saints WR Adrian Arrington. The 6′3″ WR has not only looked very impressive in early practices, but there also appears to be a very solid reason for why he fell into the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Read more

Devery Henderson May Get Cut…

May 26, 2008

Word is that Saints WR Devery Henderson is not guaranteed a roster spot in 2008. Robert Meachem and Adrian Arrington appear to be the most fantasy worthy WRs on the Saints roster other than Marques Colston at this point. Sorry, but we don’t really like David Patten or Lance Moore much either.

Saints Extremely High On Arrington…

May 25, 2008

No-Offseason.com is hearing that the Saints believe 7th round pick Adrian Arrington will be a key contributor in 2008, and possibly even earn a starting role opposite Marques Colston. The 6′3″ WR from U-M left early for the NFL due to the retirement of former college coach Lloyd Carr, and could end up being the biggest hidden gem in this year’s draft class. In practices thus far, he has been able to physically overwhelm Saints corners, and has garnered the attention of head coach Sean Payton, who believes he has an extremely high ceiling. He’s definitely someone to watch in all formats, especially dynasty leagues.

At this point, Arrington should be considered a solid second round sleeper in all dynasty rookie drafts, and a potentially early waiver wire gem in seasonal formats - just like Colston was in 2006.

The Saints have also been impressed with the progress of last year’s first round pick Robert Meachem, who missed all of 2007 with a knee injury.

Adrian Arrington Is A Fantasy Sleeper…

May 12, 2008

Two years ago at this time, we wrote a little article about a man named Marques Colston, a seventh round pick of the New Orleans Saints.

Now, we’re telling you to watch out for another man who falls in the same category, U-M’s Adrian Arrington.

Saints front man Sean Payton apparently loved what he saw from Arrington during post NFL Draft workouts. Arrington doesn’t have any prolific WRs in front of him on the depth chart, so he’s a candidate to earn a starting gig opposite Colston. Arrington is the definition of a solid deep dynasty league sleeper.

The Next Colston? Seventh Round Features Serious WR Prospects…

April 27, 2008

Dynasty owners should be very excited about this year’s NFL Draft, as it produced several phenomenal skill position prospects from start to finish.

Round seven featured four BIG WRs with serious fantasy potential…

Steve Johnson, 6′2″, Buffalo Bills - Buffalo took Indiana’s James Hardy in round two, who will likely start opposite Lee Evans in 2008, but Kentucky WR Steve Johnson is no slouch. Johnson is a great pro prospect who could add a lot to Turk Schonert’s vertical passing attack. He’s a versatile WR3 option for the Bills.

Adrian Arrington, 6′3″, New Orleans Saints - Many scouts think Arrington will be a better pro than his college teammate at U-M, Mario Manningham. Arrington goes to New Orleans, who have become a freaking hotbed for fantasy WRs during the last two seasons. Arrington will compete with last year’s first round pick Robert Meachem for PT.

Longshot Super Sleepers -

Mario Urrutia, 6′6″, Cincinnati Bengals - The Bengals are trying to replace Chris Henry, and could possibly be preparing for life without Chad Johnson, having added three WRs in this year’s NFL Draft, the last of which being Urrutia, a seriously large red zone target and former Brian Brohm fave.

Marcus Monk, 6′5″, Chicago Bears - The Bears took Vandy’s Earl Bennett in round three, who we love as a productive slot receiver at the pro level, but also added a phenomenal super sleeper at number 248 overall in Arkansas’ Marcus Monk. Monk was injured during his senior season, but is 6′5″, 222 lbs. and has 4.4 speed and huge hands. There isn’t much competition in Chicago, as Mark Bradley, Marty Booker, Devin Hester and Rashied Davis are the only WRs on the roster other than the two rookies.

East Carolina’s Johnson Highlights 3rd Round

April 13, 2008

chris-johnson.jpgEast Carolina RB Chris Johnson blazed the fastest forty time among RBs at the 2008 NFL Scouting Combine, but there’s been some debate over his actual size and whether or not he’s big enough to play in the NFL. We think that’s ridiculous, as guys like Maurice Jones-Drew, Darren Sproles and Ahmad Bradshaw have been extremely effective in recent years. Johnson will fill a similar role on an NFL team in the near future, but who will be the lucky squad to land him?
