Week 2 - Who We Like, Who We Dislike
September 12, 2008
As Sunday gets closer, Week 2 gets crazier and crazier. Marques Colston is already out, Brian Griese has been named the starter in Tampa over Jeff Garcia, and now Packers RB Ryan Grant - among others - looks somewhat questionable for Sunday’s games. However, there are still a few things we can pinpoint in terms of what we like and dislike about Week 2. Read more
Worried About Potential Holdouts?
July 29, 2008
I believe I know fantasy owners very well, and if I’m correct, then a lot of them are worried about the contract situation of Rams 25 year old RB Steven Jackson and Packers 25 year old RB Ryan Grant. Last season at this time, Chiefs RB Larry Johnson held out until just before the start of the regular season, resulting in one of his worst starts as a pro. Read more
A Third Brandon Enters The Picture
July 3, 2008
Every fantasy owner knows the names Brandon Marshall and Brandon Jacobs, but do they know the name Brandon Jackson? The 2007 second round pick from Nebraska failed to impress as a rookie, but find out why you better learn about him heading into 2008. Read more
Super Sleeper Running Backs
June 26, 2008
Because five of the top 25 and 13 of the top 40 fantasy RBs were plucked from the waiver wire in 2007, and guys like Earnest Graham, Ryan Grant, Kenny Watson, Chicago’s Adrian Peterson and Justin Fargas made names for themselves, fantasy owners are now forced to pay attention to just about every single running back on all 32 rosters - but how do you sift through the clutter to find the best super sleepers? IDPs & Brandon Jackson On The Rise…
June 24, 2008
Our stock market report has typically forecasted the increase or decrease in player values from a fantasy perspective. While it will continue to do that, we’re also adding a new spin on it this season. Read more
Packers’ Ryan Grant Continues To Sit Out…
June 18, 2008
25 year old Packers standout RB Ryan Grant continues to attend Packers practice, but sit out due to contract negotiations. We’ve always said he’s one of the smartest RBs in the NFL, and we think this proves it.
There’s absolutely no reason for him to practice prior to July if he’s seeking a new deal. Unlike Tampa’s Earnest Graham and New York’s Plaxico Burress, Grant is handling this the right way with management.
Yes, Brandon Jackson is getting more reps right now due to Grant sitting out, but ultimately, Grant will get a deal done and be the Packers clear cut starter and featured back again in 2008. We believe he’s worthy of a first round pick on all formats.
Brandon Jackson Beefs Up…
June 9, 2008
Word out of Packers practices is that second year RB Brandon Jackson, a second round pick in 2007, has beefed up from 205 lbs. to 220 lbs. in an effort to take on a bigger role in 2008. We reported in Our Sources Tell Us that Jackson is looking very solid running with the first team while Ryan Grant figures out his contract situation. Expect Jackson to win the back-up job and become Grant’s primary handcuff.
Cedric Benson Not Focused On Football
June 6, 2008
Wondering why former fourth overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft Cedric Benson has grossly underachieved during his first three seasons in the NFL? Our sources tell us that the main reason for his lack of burst, speed and quite frankly - understanding of the NFL game - is a major lack of focus. Sources close to the University of Texas football program have told us that since entering the pros and receiving a big payday, he has steadily lost interest in football, and started to pursue other off-the-field interests. Jarrett’s Future In Jeopardy…
April 6, 2008
Things aren’t looking great for 2007 Panthers second round pick Dwayne Jarrett. Since he was arrested for a DUI last month, the Panthers have signed D.J. Hackett to start across from Steve Smith, and Jarrett is likely to face punishment. Muhsin Muhammad’s presence won’t help his chances of getting on the field.
James Jones, Packers WR
No-Offseason.com
Mike McCarthy says Jones hit the rookie wall in 2007. He’s likely to have another solid year as Green Bay’s WR3 in 2008.
Brandon Jackson, Packers RB
No-Offseason.com
Mike McCarthy says Jackson will be a great special teams player and back-up to Ryan Grant in 2008.
Michael Vick, Falcons QB
No-Offseason.com
Apparently Mike Vick is playing football in prison, while keeping in touch with Falcons owner Arthur Blank. Vick is expected to be released from prison on July 20, 2009.
Joey Galloway, Buccaneers WR
No-Offseason.com
36 year old Joey Galloway will be limited in training camp this year, due to offseason shoulder surgery from which he’s experienced a slow recovery. Galloway is losing his luster big time, and we don’t really think he can be counted on for much in 2008.
Ashley Lelie, 49ers WR
No-Offseason.com
Word is that 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Martz really likes Ashley Lelie. This could be true, but we don’t. Lelie had his chance a few years back with Denver, and he is too big of a home run threat. He runs sloppy routes and has average hands, at best. We don’t expect much from him, even in Martz’s offense. Bryant Johnson is the guy we like there.
SJax To Get Long Term Deal…
February 25, 2008
Scott Linehan assured the media that locking up Steven Jackson to a long term deal would happen sometime very soon. The Rams are not believed to have interest in selecting Arkansas’ RB Darren McFadden with the second overall pick.
Bryant Johnson, Cardinals WR
No-Offseason.com
The Cardinals have not made a move to lock up UFA WR Bryant Johnson and likely won’t, meaning he’ll get a solid opportunity elsewhere. If he lands somewhere like Carolina, Houston, Minnesota, Kansas City or Tampa Bay, he could play a solid roll in deep fantasy leagues in 2008.
Brandon Jackson, Packers RB
No-Offseason.com
The Packers are hopeful that second year back Brandon Jackson can step in and be a solid third down back in 2008. Don’t get us wrong, Ryan Grant is the guy and will still see substantial third down work, but Jackson could be a contributor.
Javon Kearse, Eagles DE
No-Offseason.com
The Eagles will reportedly cut ties with the oft-injured veteran very soon. That could be the end of him.
Erasmus James, Vikings DE
No-Offseason.com
The Vikings don’t believe that former first round draft pick Erasmus James, who has undergone three knee surgeries since 2005, will make an impact in 2008.
Jonathan Vilma, Jets LB
No-Offseason.com
New York has granted permission for LB Jonathan Vilma to speak to 30 teams regarding a potential trade. The Patriots are the only team that Vilma can’t talk to. If he lands somewhere in a 4-3 scheme - like Detroit or Cincy - he could be the fantasy IDP comeback player of the year.
