Ranking 2008 Rookie WRs

June 5, 2008

limas-sweed-steelers.jpgSurprisingly, St. Louis’ Donnie Avery was the first WR selected in the 2008 NFL Draft. The speedy route runner from the University of Houston came out of nowhere to become the 33rd overall pick. Just because he was the first pass catcher taken, doesn’t mean it’ll translate to the stat column in 2008. Limas Sweed, however, was the ninth pass catcher taken, and his fantasy value is looking pretty solid heading into 2008. Each season there’s at least one rookie WR who steps up his game and becomes fantasy worthy in his first season, and believe it or not, there is a rhyme or reason to predicting which one it’ll be. ‘Skins Thomas Could Start As A Rookie

May 21, 2008

devin-thomas.jpgWe’ve jocked Devin Thomas for a long time, and based on recent news from our sources, we’ll be jocking him even more leading up to the 2008 NFL season. Our sources close to the former Michigan State Spartan tell us that Redskins coach Jim Zorn absolutely loves what he brings to the offense, and plans to use him in a variety of ways in 2008. Antwaan Randle El Injury Update…

May 20, 2008

Redskins WR Antwaan Randle El underwent arthroscopic knee surgery early in May, and is expected to begin running within the next couple weeks. He should be ready by training camp, but the ‘Skins have no reason to rush him back after acquiring Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly in the NFL Draft.

Thomas puts a huge damper on Randle El’s fantasy potential.

Antwaan Randle El Has Knee Surgery…

May 6, 2008

Redskins WR Antwaan Randle El underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Monday, but should be ready for Organized Team Activities in a few weeks. Head Coach Jim Zorn was not concerned at all about the procedure.

Could this explain why the ‘Skins took Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft?

Top Dynasty League Rookie Prospects

April 30, 2008

darren-mcfadden-raiders.jpgSince the completion of the 2008 NFL Draft, the number one question that I’ve been asked by fantasy owners is - “how do you rank this year’s rookies for dynasty drafts?” Obviously, this is a very different question than asking - “which rookies will have the best statistical seasons in 2008?” Read more

Some Holes Are Still Wide Open

April 29, 2008

ahman-green.jpgWhile many teams filled various needs during the NFL Draft, and others added depth to positions of strength, fantasy owners were hoping for a few things - the Houston Texans to draft a legit starting RB to replace Ahman Green, the Titans to take a stud WR in round one, the Cowboys to draft a solid future WR prospect and the Bears to take a decent signal caller. None of them happened - so, what now? Read more

WRs Finally: Donnie Avery Goes To St. Louis 33rd, Devin Thomas To ‘Skins 34th…

April 26, 2008

After no WRs were taken in the first round, the St. Louis Rams added Houston’s Donnie Avery - a guy who’s value skyrocketed due to his 4.2 speed. Avery isn’t the best route runner, but is expected to play the slot at the next level. He can definitely stretch the field, and in Al Saunders’ offense, could be a force to be reckoned as he pairs with Torry Holt.

The Redskins then happily snatched up MSU WR Devin Thomas with the 34th overall pick. Thomas is immediately Jim Zorn’s best WR. We like him that much. We thought they’d get him with the 21st overall pick, so the fact that the ‘Skins get him here is huge. Thomas’ fantasy digits might not take shape until late in the year, after Jason Campbell works out the kinks and learns Zorn’s offense, but as dynasty value goes - Thomas is solidified in our book as a top prospect.

Bills Eyeing Michigan State’s Devin Thomas…

April 24, 2008

Word is that the Buffalo Bills are taking a serious look at drafting 6′2″ MSU WR Devin Thomas with the 11th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. Thomas would bring a perfect combination of size and speed across from Lee Evans, and become an instant fantasy option.

His presence would help making Buffalo’s offense one of the NFL’s elite, likely helping the development of 2007 rookies Marshawn Lynch and Trent Edwards.

Thomas, Manningham Workout Updates…

April 13, 2008

The workouts continue my friends. Don’t worry, in two weeks, all the speculation will end and the true analysis can begin, but for now, it looks like Michigan State’s Devin Thomas will workout for Baltimore this week, and Mario Manningham will visit the New York Giants next.

Neither player is likely to end up with either of those squads, there is just plenty of due diligence being done this time of year.
