The Impact Of Jackson’s Holdout
August 18, 2008
Every season, there seems to be at least one NFL star who’s contract situation throws a serious kink into the plans of fantasy football owners as they prepare for their drafts. This year, it’s Rams RB Steven Jackson. His ADP (Average Draft Position) is dipping, as folks get scared that he could be this year’s Larry Johnson. Read more
When To Keep A Quarterback
August 6, 2008
Recently, I had a fantasy football owner ask me a question that nearly stumped me. I know, weird, huh? Usually, I’m the guy that answers questions right away, with no hesitation in my voice – however, this was different, very different. You see, I’m not huge on fantasy QBs. I don’t believe in keeping them, or taking them in the first round, however, I met my match with this question, and my answer totally surprised me. Read more
Experts Draft: Lynch Is Our 1st Pick
August 1, 2008
Okay, so we’ve tried a few different methods in our expert league drafts this year. We’ve in so many different leagues that we’ve picked just about everywhere between 1-12. While Adrian Peterson has been our number one overall choice, we’ve also tried taking Randy Moss in round one, which we think is a solid strategy. But in our most recent draft, our choice was Buffalo’s Marshawn Lynch. Read more
Don’t Take Tom Brady Early
July 25, 2008
No disrespect to NFL.com’s Michael Fabiano, you do great work, but I just don’t understand your thought process taking Tom Brady in round one of a recent mock draft. Folks, although Fabiano obviously knows what he’s talking about, I definitely wouldn’t follow his example of taking Brady in round one. Read more
The Benefits Of Concerns
July 24, 2008
Fantasy football drafts are all about expectations. Plain and simple, guys drafted in rounds one and two are expected to perform better throughout the season and – in theory – score more fantasy points than guys drafted in rounds three, four and five. However, we all know that doesn’t always happen. Read more
Be A Draft Trend Setter
July 24, 2008
I like to say that it’s never a bad idea to start a trend in a fantasy draft. The trends I’m referring to are more commonly known as “runs.” However, I should clarify. Don’t be the guy that takes a QB or a TE in round one, but be thinking about literally staying ahead of your competition as you draft. Read more
Drafting TEs Back-To-Back
July 23, 2008
Some fantasy leagues have an RB/WR/TE flex position. In one of my most recent expert league drafts, I used a strategy to take advantage of this starting line-up quirk. With the first overall pick, I took my guy, Adrian Peterson, followed by WR-combo Marques Colston and Steve Smith in rounds two and three. Then, I did something extremely unconventional in rounds four and five. Read more
Catch On To FFOC
July 20, 2008
To play fantasy football, you have to love competition. But to play fantasy football well, you have to have a little pep in your step, a little swagger in your walk and a little trash in your talk. Come on, you know what I mean. I’m sure you’ve been that guy at the bar, a family function, or out on a double date – talking about how you won your fantasy league last season. Read more
Fantasy Football Is An Art - Not A Science
July 17, 2008
Regardless of how much you do or don’t know about fantasy football, or how good or horrible you think you are on draft day, there’s enough stuff floating around out there with regards to fantasy football draft strategy to keep your head spinning for days. Don’t worry, I’m going to sort through all that, and simplify things for you right here and right now. Read more
Know Your Scoring System
July 11, 2008
Have you ever wondered why there are huge discrepancies in where guys like Reggie Bush, Frank Gore, Rudi Johnson, Brandon Jacobs and several others are ranked among fantasy websites and magazines? Varying opinions are a factor, but the main reason is that different media outlets rank their players based on various league scoring formats, but don’t always identify which one they’re using. How To Win An IDP League
July 9, 2008
If you’re not playing fantasy football with individual defensive players, you’re missing out. IDP leagues add more players to the mix, increasing the overall competition level. If a stacked offensive team has a few holes on defense, it can be vulnerable against a team with a bang-up D that may be struggling on offense due to injury problems. IDPs give the margin of error some breathing room, as more factors need to be taken into account – like who ranks higher on draft boards – Marc Bulger or Brian Urlacher? Read more
When To Go Against The Grain
July 7, 2008
For the past several years, it’s been smart to draft running backs in Rounds 1 & 2, regardless of draft position. Solid featured RBs have always been hard to come by, thus the rationale for snagging two good ones early. As trends go, the “RB-RB” strategy has been the strongest in the history of rotisserie sports – but starting with 2008 drafts, it could be coming to an end. Read more
