Ranking 2008 Rookie WRs
June 5, 2008
Surprisingly, St. Louis’ Donnie Avery was the first WR selected in the 2008 NFL Draft. The speedy route runner from the University of Houston came out of nowhere to become the 33rd overall pick. Just because he was the first pass catcher taken, doesn’t mean it’ll translate to the stat column in 2008. Limas Sweed, however, was the ninth pass catcher taken, and his fantasy value is looking pretty solid heading into 2008. Each season there’s at least one rookie WR who steps up his game and becomes fantasy worthy in his first season, and believe it or not, there is a rhyme or reason to predicting which one it’ll be. Bears Rookie WRs Looking Great…
May 5, 2008
Early indications out of mini-camps are that the Chicago Bears two rookie WRs, third rounder Earl Bennett - from Vandy - and seventh rounder Marcus Monk - from Arkansas - are both looking like potential starters in 2008. Devin Hester, Marty Booker and Mark Bradley are the only other competition for them, and while it’s rare for rookies to earn a starting role, these two have high potential to make an impact.
Bennett would be more valuable to owners in PPR leagues, as he’s likely to make an impact all over the field, while Monk has great size and is more of a red zone threat.
Bears Take Vandy’s Earl Bennett…
April 27, 2008
With the 70th overall pick (7th in the third round), the Bears selected Vanderbilt WR Earl Bennett, who we really like. The 6′0″, 209 pounder is a very good route runner who played well against solid SEC defenses over the past three seasons.
Chicago needed a WR in this draft, and with this pick, they got their WR1 of the future. We really like Bennett in dynasty leagues.
Vandy’s Bennett Leads Run On WRs
April 9, 2008
A name you probably haven’t heard very often is Earl Bennett. The 5′11″ Vanderbilt wide receiver was overshadowed in the talented SEC, but that doesn’t change the fact that he played against some of the toughest competition in the nation. Bennett has all the tools to be a successful NFL wide receiver, and he’s about to lead a mini-run on WRs as our mock draft continues. Read more
Bengals Interested In Malcolm Kelly?
April 8, 2008
We know the Bengals will need to draft a wide receiver due to the fact that they recently had to release Chris Henry, and that Chad Johnson could blow at any minute. Apparently the Bengals have told Oklahoma WR Malcolm Kelly that they’re interested in drafting him. He’d be a first rounder, so Cincy could be looking at trading back to around the 11th or 12th spot, or drafting him at 9th overall.
This type of thing happens a lot around this time of year, so we’re taking it with a grain of salt. We also hear that Cincy is interested in Vandy’s Earl Bennett - a likely second rounder.
