Jerry Porter Still Out With A Hammy…
June 11, 2008
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Jerry Porter is still out with a hamstring injury that he suffered a couple weeks ago. Even thought it’s only June, this really isn’t a great sign for his fantasy value in 2008. When healthy, he has potential to be a solid WR3, but these things can linger - big time.
Apparently Troy Williamson and Mike Walker - who has battled knee problems - have both looked good in mini-camp and have a shot at making the final roster. 2005 first round pick Matt Jones - who has been a disaster in his pro career at WR, could potentially be released, as he continues to battle nagging injuries.
Jags WR Update: Williams Looks Good…
May 29, 2008
The Jaguars have updated the injury status of Jerry Porter. He has a tweaked hamstring, which shouldn’t be really seen as a serious injury, but he will likely sit out practice for the next week or so to prevent further aggravation.
24 year old 6′5″ WR Reggie Williams has lined up as a starter at the “Z” spot, and should be in for a solid year opposite Porter. We like Williams as a WR3 sleeper in deep leagues. He has more value in non-PPR leagues after 10 TDs in only 38 catches last year.
Troy Williamson hasn’t dropped a pass yet in practice this off-season, but still isn’t a lock to make the team.
Jerry Porter’s Mystery Injury…
May 28, 2008
Did Jags veteran WR Jerry Porter hurt his knee in practice yesterday, or his hammy?
There were conflicting reports, and the jury is still out on his status. We love the 30 year old as a fantasy sleeper in 2008, but he’s been nicked up thus far this off-season. The Jags may want to rest him until training camp.
Jerry Porter Generating A Buzz
May 27, 2008
Two years ago at this time, Jerry Porter was coming off back-to-back career years in Oakland, averaging more than 70 catches for more than 950 yards and seven TDs in 2004 and 2005. Unfortunately, due to a horrible coaching change in 2006, Porter fell of the face of the Earth, playing in only one game, and catching one pass for 19 yards. Now, after still sub-par 44 catch, 705 yard, six TD season in 2007, the soon-to-be 30 year old wide receiver is looking like a fantasy gem. Read more
Jason Taylor Could Stay With Dolphins…
May 27, 2008
Right now, it appears that the Jacksonville Jaguars are the team showing the most interest in acquiring Dolphins DE Jason Taylor, and if we had to bet on the situation, we might sway that way. However, ESPN’s John Clayton is reporting that there’s a good chance Taylor could remain with the ‘Phins in 2008.
If Taylor does play in Miami this season, his IDP value will plummet, as he’ll likely be scored as a LB in Tony Sparano’s 3-4 defense.
NFL’s Most Improved Offenses
May 25, 2008
What are Mike Martz and Alex Smith doing in San Francisco, you ask? Only brewing up one of the NFL’s most revived and improved offenses in 2008. Martz brings with him a history of getting several wide receivers involved in the offense, developing one stud QB, and increasing the PPR value of his RBs. Read more
Jerry Porter Looks Good At Jags Practice…
May 14, 2008
According to the Florida Times-Union, Jerry Porter was a favorite target of QB David Garrard in 11-on-11 drills on Tuesday. Head coach Jack Del Rio told the paper that there’s no doubt that the Garrard-Porter combo will be very productive in 2008.
Both players have experienced a rise in fantasy value, there’s no doubt, but owners need to be realistic when assessing the situation. These guys are by no means fantasy studs. They’re both reserves in 10 and 12 team leagues. Garrard is a solid QB2 and Porter’s ceiling is a WR3.
Derrick Harvey’s Role Undetermined…
May 8, 2008
What would you say if I told you a team traded up 18 spots in the first round to draft a defensive end, and then told the media that he’d have a “limited” role? You’re scratching your head, aren’t you?
Well, that’s what the Jacksonville Jaguars are saying about first round pick Derrick Harvey. He has a freaking solid shot at being the next great IDP DE, but his defensive line coach is saying he’ll be limited to pass-rushing situations only.
Well, if this is the case, fantasy owners shouldn’t fret too much, as the role certainly worked well for Robert Mathis in 2005 and Mark Anderson in 2006.
Lito Sheppard To The Jaguars?
April 29, 2008
We’re hearing that the Eagles may still trade Lito Sheppard to the Jaguars for several picks in 2009. The rumor originated from Sheppard’s agent, who is a pretty good source in this context.
Discuss Lito Sheppard possibly being traded to the Jaguars.
Jags Trade For 8; Select Derrick Harvey…
April 26, 2008
NFL Network’s Mike Mayock is a freaking God right now. He not only predicted the first five picks in the NFL Draft, but he he-manned himself into predicting the two trades at seven and eight.
Now, to Harvey - the pass rushing DE from Florida gives the Jags something they haven’t had in a while. Gregg Williams will love this guy, and will send him after opposing QBs constantly.
We really like Harvey as a fantasy IDP option in leagues that require starters at DE.
