Super Sleeper Running Backs

June 26, 2008

michael-bush.jpgBecause five of the top 25 and 13 of the top 40 fantasy RBs were plucked from the waiver wire in 2007, and guys like Earnest Graham, Ryan Grant, Kenny Watson, Chicago’s Adrian Peterson and Justin Fargas made names for themselves, fantasy owners are now forced to pay attention to just about every single running back on all 32 rosters - but how do you sift through the clutter to find the best super sleepers? Busy Week Capped Off By Ocho’s Return…

June 12, 2008

Whether or not Ocho Cinco’s recent appearance at Bengals mini-camp was just a token visit for show, the fact of the matter is that he showed up. This gives his fantasy owners much more trade leverage when trying to deal him this off-season, because - at least for now - it looks like he’ll be back with the Bengals in 2008. Normally, this would have been plenty of headline grabbing news for one week during the NFL off-season, but the release of Cedric Benson and the retirement of Michael Strahan and Jonathan Ogden also impacted the landscape of fantasy football heading into 2008. Jamaal Charles To See 10-12 Carries A Game?

June 12, 2008

Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards told the media that rookie RB Jamaal Charles would see 10-12 carries a game in 2008. This was in context of talking about Larry Johnson’s workload. Edwards said Johnson would be “lucky” to get 30 touches a game in 2008, but that he’d still see the workload of a featured back.

It’s interesting that Edwards is talking about this, because it seemed like an obvious assumption. The real news here is that Charles is likely to see more action than many of us thought in year one, and that Kolby Smith appears to be third on the depth chard. Charles’ dynasty value just took a solid step in the right direction with these comments. More to come.

Careful What You Read About LJ

June 5, 2008

larry-johnson-27.jpgFantasy owners need to be very careful in how they interpret certain media reports regarding star players. For example, a source that we won’t throw under the bus recently reported that Larry Johnson’s workload will be “cut back” in 2008. When actually looking at what head coach Herm Edwards said, however, we came to a different conclusion. Read more

Jamaal Charles To Play A Role In 2008?

May 19, 2008

Fantasy owners pay attention - it appears that Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles could have a huge opportunity coming his way in 2008. The Chiefs have announced that Larry Johnson will be limited in mini-camp practices due to a nagging toe/foot injury that he suffered in Week 8 of 2007.

This mystery injury has taken a darn long time to get better, and still isn’t anywhere near fully healed. It may not seem like a big deal for him to miss these May practices, but it’s a concern for the soon-to-be 29 year old RB. Rookie Jamaal Charles will get a serious opportunity to steal reps, as Johnson will probably be limited in training camp as well.

Chiefs Grab Jamaal Charles In Round Three…

April 27, 2008

Well, we were hoping for fantasy purposes that the Houston Texans would grab him, but the Kansas City Chiefs couldn’t pass on the opportunity to grab this future quality NFL runner in the middle of the third round. Unfortunately, Charles’ fantasy upside is limited by the presence of Larry Johnson and Kolby Smith.

He’s still draftable late in deep dynasties.

Detroit Lions Draft Plans…

April 25, 2008

Could Matt Millen and the Detroit Lions actually end up having a halfway decent plan of attack entering this year’s NFL Draft?

Apparently they are looking at taking Florida DE Derrick Harvey with the 15th overall pick, with Tennessee LB Jerod Mayo as a fallback option, even though we’re hearing Mayo could go as early as 7th overall to New England.

A great pick would be Vandy’s Chris Williams, but at least they’re not considering really taking an RB in round one anymore.

We hear they want Texas’ Jamaal Charles in the second round.

Discuss this more in our forums.

Jamaal Charles Still On The Board…

April 12, 2008

jamaal-charles.jpgNot to “He-Man” ourselves, but how many other fantasy football sites have you found that have mocked this deep? Why do we do it? Have you ever heard of Marques Colston? What about Tom Brady? Okay, you get the point, let round three begin.

Oregon’s Dixon Works Out For NFL Squads…

April 5, 2008

Dennis Dixon, who tore his ACL less than six months ago, has been working out for NFL scouts. He said his knee felt great. He’ll likely be drafted as a QB, but could play WR at the next level due to his athleticism.

Jamaal Charles, Texas RB
No-Offseason.com
Charles worked out for the Bears, along with Matt Forte and Felix Jones. The Bears will definitely draft an RB in the second round of the NFL Draft, which is bad news for Cedric Benson.

Mario Manningham, U-M WR
No-Offseason.com
Manningham, who is projected as a mid second rounder at this point, is apprently being investigated for behavioral issues. This must be something that NFL teams are doing more of due to the recent hard stances taken by commissioner Roger Goodell.

DeSean Jackson, California WR
No-Offseason.com
Jackson, like Manningham, is being investigated for behavioral issues. He was once projected as the first WR to be taken in the draft, but his stock could be slipping.

Deuce McAllister, Saints RB
No-Offseason.com
Word is that Deuce McAllister has shown the Saints enough to trust that he’ll be a key contributor in 2008, and they will not release him this offseason. He’s coming back from his second ACL tear in three seasons and microfracture surgery. He’s done it before, and he can do it again. Deuce will be a great sleeper in the late rounds of seasonal drafts this season, as most people will likely forget about him.

Leigh Bodden, Lions CB
No-Offseason.com
According to Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis, Bodden is one of the NFL’s best corners. We agree.
