Josh Johnson Finally Gets Reps…

June 19, 2008

Buccaneers rookie QB Josh Johnson - who ran a 4.5 forty in the NFL Scouting Combine - finally saw some reps with the first team offense in practice yesterday. As expected, Johnson didn’t necessarily impress, as Jon Gruden’s West Coast offense isn’t easy to pick up.

Still, it’s good that Gruden wants to take a long look at Johnson. He’ll make the team, and likely to compete be the team’s third QB with Luke McCown, behind Jeff Garcia and Brian Griese. The team is expected to release Chris Simms after training camp starts.

Will Rookie QBs Have Fantasy Value?

May 16, 2008

joe-flacco.jpgMany folks close to NFL teams, as well as several analysts have already come out and said that guys like Baltimore Ravens first round pick Joe Flacco, and Miami Dolphins second round pick Chad Henne, have a good chance at starting for their respective teams sometime in 2008. The question I want to clear up is - do any of this year’s rookie QBs have a shot at fantasy stardom? Read more

Tampa To Still Trade Chris Simms…

April 30, 2008

Draft weekend came and went with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers turning down several trade offers for 27 year old QB Chris Simms. Unfortunately for Simms, the Bucs actually drafted another QB, San Diego’s Josh Johnson. We’re hearing though that Tampa would still like to try and trade Simms sometime during training camp.

The team feels that if another NFL team experiences a QB going down with an injury, that Simms’ value will be inflated, and that they can get a solid 2009 pick for him.

Josh Johnson To Play QB In Tampa…

April 28, 2008

San Diego product Josh Johnson, who played QB in college but at 6′3″ has WR written all over him, will step into his first training camp at his natural signal caller position.

At this point, the Bucs envision him as their third string QB, with the possibility of playing a Brad Smith type role later on in the year if they need help at WR - which they will.

Fifth Round Fantasy Longshots…

April 27, 2008

Josh Johnson and Kellen Davis, two talented college players taken at the end of the fifth round, went into situations where they won’t have an easy road towards becoming a fantasy option. Still, they should all be monitored throughout the off-season by dynasty owners.

Josh Johnson, QB, Buccaneers - The San Diego product is 6′3″ and FAST. He has a shot to play WR at the pro level, but as Jeff Garcia gets older, QB is a possibility for him in Jon Gruden’s offense.

Kellen Davis, TE, Bears - MSU’s Davis is 6′7″ and looks great on paper. He’s a beast that will likely make the roster as a special teams contributor, but will be behind Greg Olsen and Desmond Clark on the depth chart, making fantasy-worthiness very unlikely.

Roy Williams To Remain In Detroit…

April 11, 2008

roy-williams.jpgRumors have been swirling regarding Lions fifth year WR Roy Williams and his impending free agency. Will the Lions trade him before he potentially bolts during March, 2009? Our sources are adamant that Roy Boy will remain in the Honolulu Blue and Silver throughout the entire 2008 season. Unfortunately, that doesn’t guarantee a solid fantasy season for him, as Detroit transition’s to more of a “run-first” offensive coordinator in Jim Colletto. Williams has also had trouble staying healthy, finishing out only one entire season out of his first four years. Read more
