Mike Williams Could Be A Factor In 2008…
May 10, 2008
After being one of the many busts of the 2005 NFL Draft - perhaps the weakest class we’ve seen in a long time - former Lions and Raiders WR Mike Williams, who is currently on the Titans roster, actually looks good. He’s apparently lost 30 pounds, and has developed a solid relationship with new OC Mike Heimerdinger. We’ve heard whispers that Williams could challenge for a starting role, as Roydell Williams comes back from an ankle injury, Justin Gage is well, Justin Gage, and rookie Lavelle Hawkins isn’t guaranteed anything. Dynasty owners need to watch this. Having fantasy value may not seem like a very good possibility right now, but Williams is still only 24 years old, and 6′5″.

Word on the street is that Bears LB Lance Briggs is expected to sign with the San Francisco 49ers when the NFL free agency period begins.
Dwight Smith, Lions FS

Detroit signed free agent FS Dwight Smith to a two year deal worth $5 million. He used to play for Rod Marinelli in Tampa Bay before spending a few seasons in Minnesota. Darren Sharper will reportedly return to the Vikings as the starting strong safety.
Justin Gage, Titans WR

The Titans signed 6′4″ WR Justin Gage to a multi-year contract. He’s likely to catch between 30-45 balls in 2008 and not be much of a fantasy factor. He’ll be a good complimentary possession receiver. In other news, the Titans released David Givens.
Alge Crumpler, Former Falcons TE

Crumpler visited the Tennessee Titans recently and it’s been reported that the Titans will make him a very solid offer that he may not be able to refuse.
Greg White, Buccaneers DE

The Buccaneers released defensive ends Kevin Carter and Greg Spires, leaving Greg White and Gaines Adams as the apparent starters at DE heading into 2008. Look for both White and Adams to be very solid IDP options in leagues that require starters at defensive line.
Cedric Benson, Bears RB
No-Offseason.com
Cedric Benson’s surgery to repair a fractured ankle ended up being more complicated than doctors originally thought. He now has a small plate holding the bone together, which is not a good sign for the already slow RB. Many believe Benson will be even slower in 2008, which is a horrible sign for his future value.
