A term that gets thrown around very loosely without explanation these days is the “PUP.” In short, the Physically Unable To Perform list is used as a middle ground of sorts for players who aren’t healthy enough to be on the active roster, yet not unhealthy enough to be on injured reserve. Bengals RB Situation…

Bengals RBs Rudi Johnson, Chris Perry and even Kenny Irons - who suffered a torn ACL last pre-season - all participated in practice on Wednesday.
Irons was the least involved, but his presence on the field means something.
We believe this could be one of the most heated RB competitions in the NFL this season, and we’ll keep a close eye on it.
Shaun Alexander Won’t Fit In Cincy…

We’ve said this before, and now the Bengals are saying it. Free Agent RB Shaun Alexander would back-up both Rudi Johnson and Chris Perry if he were to sign with the Bengals, making it seem extremely unlikely that he’ll end up there.
2007 second rounder Kenny Irons, when healthy, would even be a better fantasy option than the former NFL MVP.
