Super Sleeper Running Backs
June 26, 2008
Because five of the top 25 and 13 of the top 40 fantasy RBs were plucked from the waiver wire in 2007, and guys like Earnest Graham, Ryan Grant, Kenny Watson, Chicago’s Adrian Peterson and Justin Fargas made names for themselves, fantasy owners are now forced to pay attention to just about every single running back on all 32 rosters - but how do you sift through the clutter to find the best super sleepers? Random Running Back Updates…
June 1, 2008
Several RB fantasy prospects have been mentioned in the news lately. Let’s take a look…
- Lorenzo Booker, Eagles RB - Booker has looked very impressive in practice recently, and is carving out a solid role in Philly’s West Coast offense. He will be a solid RB4 in PPR leagues, and has solid dynasty value as Brian Westbrook’s back-up.
- Kevin Smith, Lions RB - The former Central Florida stud has really impressed coaches of late. He plays in Jim Colletto’s run first, run second and run third offense, and will be a dynasty and seasonal stud. Yes, we said stud.
- Mewelde Moore, Steelers RB - Even though he has no more fantasy value due to the addition of Rashard Mendenhall, Mewelde Moore is happy with his role for Pittsburgh. He’ll return kicks and occasionally play on third downs.
- Chris Taylor, Texans RB - After looking like a very solid deep seasonal sleeper candidate earlier this off-season, Texans head coach Gary Kubiak is now changing his tune a bit with regards to third year RB Chris Taylor. Right now, Ahman Green, Chris Brown and Steve Slaton appear to be ahead of him on the depth chart. The key factor we keep going back to though is that Green and Brown are extremely injury prone. Don’t count Taylor out just yet.
- Darren McFadden, Raiders RB - McFadden will start contract negotiations next week. This is great for his seasonal fantasy value. He’ll get into camp, and start early, which will be important for earning significant playing time.
L.J. Smith Gives State Of The Union…
May 14, 2008
Philadelphia Eagles TE L.J. Smith told The News Journal that he believes the Eagles offense will bounce back in 2008 after a borderline putrid 2007 campaign. Smith talked about the team having better chemistry in the redzone.
In regards to his health, Smith referred to his 2007 hernia injury as a “fluke” thing.
We tend to agree with Smith, in that the Eagles will be much better with the rock in their possession in 2008, and should use Lorenzo Booker in a pass catching role behind Brian Westbrook.
Philly Loves Lorenzo Booker…
May 9, 2008
The Eagles already like what they see from second year RB Lorenzo Booker, who they stole away from Miami for a fourth round pick. Booker is small but explosive, and racked up 28 catches for 237 yards in only five games last season. We love him as a fit for Philly’s offense, and even though he’ll be Brian Westbrook’s back-up, he may see enough time/receptions to actually contribute on a weekly basis as a flex in deep leagues.
He doesn’t hurt Westbrook’s fantasy value, but he does have some PO of his own. Oh yeah, he’s a necessary handcuff for Westbrook’s seasonal owners.
Roy Williams Wants To Play For Dallas…
April 2, 2008
Williams a native Texan has said he’ll like to play for Dallas in 2008 or 2009. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones indicated cleverly that he’d pursue a star WR via trade prior to doing it via draft.
Tony Sparano, Dolphins Head Coach
No-Offseason.com
Sparano will officially change the Dolphins’ defense to a 3-4 alignment, with Matt Roth and Vonnie Holiday the ends, and Jason Ferguson the nose tackle. This will hurt the fantasy value of Jason Taylor, who moves to OLB if he’s not traded.
Lorenzo Booker, Dolphins RB
No-Offseason.com
Booker, a second year RB, will still be a strong part of the offense upon the return of Ronnie Brown.
Shaun Alexander, Seahawks RB
No-Offseason.com
Alexander is reportedly getting his cast off of his wrist soon, but is expected to be released by Seattle.
Jay Cutler, Broncos QB
No-Offseason.com
Cutler is disappointed in Brandon Marshall for injuring himself recently. We would be too.
Ryan Grant, Packers RB
No-Offseason.com
Ryan Grant won’t sign the minimum tender of $370,000. We expect a deal to get done soon, due to the fact that Grant has shown up for all of the Packers’ offseason work thus far.
J.P. Losman, Bills QB
No-Offseason.com
Apparently the Green Bay Packers are interested in possibly acquiring J.P. Losman from the Bills.
