Don’t Believe The Hype…

April 17, 2008

The Charlotte Observer is suggesting that the Panthers favor Oregon RB Jonathan Stewart over Illinois RB Rashard Mendenhall. Why is there so much freaking infatuation with Carolina taking an RB in round one? That’s the stupidest thing we’ve ever heard. Why would a team that took a perfectly capable back in the first round two years ago (DeAngelo Williams), take another one with the 13th overall pick?

All the Panthers need is a back-up, people - and they’re likely to get one at some point in this draft, but NOT in round one.

The Lions will likely have their choice of Stewart or Mendenhall at number 15 overall.

NFC East & North Draft Needs

April 17, 2008

michael-strahan.jpgThere are many story-lines revolving around the NFC East & NFC North divisions this off-season, and all of them affect the NFL Draft in one way or another. Read more

Where Will Steve Slaton End Up?

April 15, 2008

steve-slaton.jpgStewart Bradley, Trent Edwards, Garrett Wolfe, Jacoby Jones and Laurent Robinson aren’t exactly household names yet, but most of them will be on the fantasy radar heading into their second NFL season. What do they REALLY have in common though? They were all taken smack dab in the middle of the third round of the NFL Draft last year - which happens to be exactly where we are in this year’s mock. Knight To Play Free Safety For Giants…

April 11, 2008

Veteran 33 year old former strong safety Sammy Knight is expected to move over and play free safety this season for the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants.

If the season began today, James Butler and Michael Johnson would compete for the starting gig at strong safety, but we have a suspision that New York will address that position once, or even twice in the draft. They’re definitely interested in Miami’s Kenny Phillips and may potentially trade up a few spots in round one to get him.

Colts Looking At Manningham & Doucet…

April 11, 2008

As we’ve reported for quite some time, the Indianapolis Colts are looking to draft a WR in the second round of the NFL Draft. Their first pick isn’t until 59th overall, where U-M’s Mario Manningham and LSU’s Early Doucet are expected to be available. Whoever they add at this position will definitely be fantasy worthy. We expect one more good year out of Marvin Harrison before he hangs it up, then Manningham, Doucet, or K-State’s Jordy Nelson will step into the top three WR rotation in Tom Moore’s offense.

Plenty Of Teams Interested In Otah…

April 11, 2008

We knew he was a hot commodity, but this really proves it.  Several teams, including Cincinnati, Carolina, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Chicago, Philadelphia, the New York Giants, Baltimore, Green Bay, San Diego and Atlanta attended Jeff Otah’s workout. The Pittsburgh OT is definitely going to be a mid first rounder.

Cowboys Are Interested In Kenny Phillips…

April 10, 2008

The Cowboys are reportedly interested in drafting University of Miami strong safety Kenny Phillips. Even with Roy Williams on the roster, the ‘Boys feel the need to look at adding Phillips. Not only would he be a solid addition, but he’d give them options in case things don’t work out with Roy or Ken Hamlin in 2009.

Raiders Considering Vernon Gholston…

April 10, 2008

Not that this should surprise anyone, but there is some news floating around that the Raiders are strongly considering taking Ohio State DE Vernon Gholston with the fourth overall pick.

They should be, as he’d be a solid fit for their team and probably help them win more games than Darren McFadden would. However, we believe they’ll go with McFadden, who is already being affectionately referred to as “DMC” by Raiders fans.

Saints Like Mike Jenkins…

April 10, 2008

South Florida cornerback Mike Jenkins will be a first round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft - the question is - will he be a top 15 pick, or a top 31 pick? Well, apparently the New Orleans Saints are strongly considering him with the 10th overall selection. We expect there to be a huge mid-first round run on CBs, and for Jenkins to be a part of it. From a fantasy IDP standpoint, the kid definitely has PO.

Despite Bad Day, Teams Like Kelly…

April 10, 2008

We’re hearing that Malcolm Kelly’s “blow up” at this pro day yesterday was definitely a cause for concern, as professional athletes need to be prepared for any type of situation (Kelly had the wrong shoes due to a last minute change from AstroTurf to field turf).

Apparently, pro teams have not lost interest in him, as the Titans, Steelers, Cowboys, Redskins, Eagles, Vikings, Broncos and Bills have all shown plenty of interest despite what happened yesterday. This confirms that he will definitely go in the mid to late first round and still be a fine dynasty league WR prospect. At 6′4″, he’ll be someone for dynasty owners to ride out for at least three years.

Dolphins To Pass On Top Pick?

April 10, 2008

Rams coach Scott Linehan is preparing for the Dolphins to potentially pass on the number one overall pick. The rationale here is that the Dolphins may not want to pay the salary required of the number one overall selection. Our question is - why not trade down then? Quite frankly the notion that any team would pass on the number one pick is absolutely idiotic. It’ll still be interesting to see if the Rams send a runner up to the podium ready to hand in a pick while the Dolphins are on the clock.

Many Teams Eyeing MSU’s Davis

April 10, 2008

kellen-davis.jpgMichigan State’s Kellen Davis is a guy who’s draft stock is climbing. The 6′7″ beast is strong, fast, has great hands, and can actually line up at either TE or DE. That’s right folks, he’s an iron man - but where will he go? Find out as we continue the second round of our NFL Mock Draft. Read more
