Shaun Alexander Has Lost All Trust…
June 19, 2008
CBSSports.com Senior Writer Clark Judge reports that free agent RB Shaun Alexander is definitely not a hot commodity on the open market. Not only that, but it seems that most NFL GM’s have lost trust in the former NFL MVP. They’re not impressed with the numbers he used to put up, and they’re very concerned with how soft he has appeared in recent seasons.
On top of that, Alexander’s heart and desire are being questioned.
This is not good. We do not recommend him as an option in any league format. This means he’s not worth a roster spot at all - even if he does land somewhere like Detroit, Houston, New Orleans or Chicago. He’s out folks.
LaMont In Limbo
June 13, 2008
It’s been one heck of an off-season for Raiders RB LaMont Jordan. Not only has his own team told him that he’s not welcome at practice or in their facility, but they also refuse to release him. Now, our sources are telling us just how hard it will be for Jordan to find a new home when the Raiders finally do set him free. Read more
Kevin Jones Still Searching For A Home…
June 11, 2008
Recent reports indicate that Kevin Jones is interested in playing for the Chicago Bears, now that Cedric Benson has been released. Jones reportedly looked phenomenal in a couple recent workouts, and believes he has value close to the $3 million range for a one-year deal. We’re not going to deny it, Jones probably would be a great fit in Chicago, and a nice insurance policy for rookie Matt Forte - who is likely to enter the season as Chicago’s starter.
Jones, along with Travis Henry, Shaun Alexander and Ron Dayne, still do not have homes, which is definitely making it harder for all of them to get a deal they want from a monetary standpoint. Each of them will likely have to take incentive-laden deals if they want to remain in the NFL.
Shaun Alexander Still Unemployed…
May 30, 2008
“Say Vandelay Industries! Say Vandelay Industries!” Ah, the words of Seinfeld’s George Costanza still make me laugh to this day. George was unemployed and trying to get Jerry to lie to the unemployment folks and say that he worked at Vandelay Industries as a Latex salesmen.
What does Shaun Alexander have in common with Costanza? That’s right, he’s unemployed - STILL.
Word is that Alexander won’t be added to a roster until training camp, as team’s get hit with unexpected injuries.
Wow, we called his demise two years ago at this time, but we didn’t expect this big of a fall from grace. He has no fantasy value.
Travis Henry Could Get Cut…
May 19, 2008
We’re hearing that Broncos RB Travis Henry could be released this off-season. Even though he re-worked his deal to stay with the team and make less money, he was a no-show at Broncos OTAs today. Rookie Ryan Torain and second year man Selvin Young would compete for the starting job without Henry, and have a good chance to beat him out even if he does make the roster.
We still think the Broncos have some interest in Shaun Alexander as well.
Shaun Alexander Won’t End Up In Cincy…
May 11, 2008
We’re hearing that after initial rumors that Shaun Alexander may end up in Cincinnati, his agent hasn’t really even talked with the team since his visit last week. The Bengals would have to make roster room for the veteran, and it’s probably not a great fit for either side.
We can’t see Shaun ending up in Cincy.
Julius Owners: Don’t Believe Holmgren
May 9, 2008
Our sources aren’t buying into Mike Holmgren’s recent coach-speak about using a running back committee. Even though Julius Jones wasn’t spectacular by any means last season in Dallas, he is head and shoulders above Maurice Morris and T.J. Duckett. Our sources believe that Holmgren is using the media to send a message to his running backs that in mid-May, nobody should take anything for granted. However, Jones will definitely be the starter, and see the rock 20-25 times a game, assuming he stays healthy. We also hear that Jones has worked extremely hard in pass protection, and improving his receiving skills this off-season. In other words, Maurice Morris is not a threat to his fantasy value. Broncos To Cut Travis Henry?
May 7, 2008
Word is that if the Broncos sign veteran Shaun Alexander to back-up Selvin Young and Ryan Torain, then 30 year old Travis Henry is a goner.
And so goes the seemingly endless game of RB musical chairs. Henry has limited fantasy value at this point anyway, and so does Alexander.
We really like Torain the most out of Denver’s RBs.
Shaun Alexander Won’t Fit In Cincy…
May 6, 2008
We’ve said this before, and now the Bengals are saying it. Free Agent RB Shaun Alexander would back-up both Rudi Johnson and Chris Perry if he were to sign with the Bengals, making it seem extremely unlikely that he’ll end up there.
2007 second rounder Kenny Irons, when healthy, would even be a better fantasy option than the former NFL MVP.
Broncos Interested In Dominic Rhodes…
May 6, 2008
Word is that the Denver Broncos are seriously interested in signing free agent RB Dominic Rhodes. Shaun Alexander may visit Denver soon, but if he doesn’t, the team is reportedly intent on signing Rhodes to compete with Travis Henry for the starting gig. This would obviously be HUGE for Rhodes’ fantasy value, as he’d be the front runner for the starting job over Henry, Selvin Young and rookie Ryan Torain.
Shaun Alexander Update…
May 5, 2008
31 year old veteran Shaun Alexander visited the Bengals today but did not sign a deal. Word is he’ll visit New Orleans and possibly Denver next. Out of all the places in the league for him to potentially earn a job, Denver could be the best possibility.
Shaun To Visit Bengals, But Won’t Sign…
May 2, 2008
We’re hearing that even though 31 year old former NFL MVP Shaun Alexander plans to visit the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday, the team doesn’t necessarily plan on signing him to a deal. Also, Alexander isn’t thrilled with the fact that Cincy has four RBs on their roster already, and doesn’t plan to release any of them.
We still believe that he will not end up in Cincy, but rather in a city that actually has roster space for him. In addition to Detroit, we’re now hearing that the Washington Redskins are interested in his services as a back-up to Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts.
