The New-Look Baltimore Ravens…

May 12, 2008

Just because none of the personnel has really changed for the Ravens starting offense, doesn’t mean that there won’t be some drastic differences in what fantasy owners see from guys like Derrick Mason, Mark Clayton and Demetrius Williams in 2008. New OC Cam Cameron wants to use three wide receiver sets as the team’s base formation in 2008, as well as highlighting TE Todd Heap and RB Willis McGahee as featured weapons.

McGahee was apparently pulled from games in the fourth quarter last season due to poor conditioning, meaning he’ll have to be ready for his 30 touches a game this season.

Rookie Marcus Smith, a fourth rounder from New Mexico, should also compete to play as a rookie.

Heap, Jacobs, Holmes, Evans, Bush, Portis Rising; Young, Brown, Taylor Falling…

February 18, 2008

Rising - Todd Heap, Ravens TE - 27 year old pass catching tight end Todd Heap has already begun vigorous workouts this offseason after missing 11 games in 2007 with what is now being acknowledged as a torn hamstring. Prior to 2007, Heap had not missed a game in two years, recording 75 catches for 855 yards and seven TDs in 2005 and 73 catches for 765 yards and six TDs in 2006. At 6′5″, 252, Heap is a true weapon in the passing attack and figures to be a huge part of Cam Cameron’s tight end friendly offense in 2008 and beyond. A healthy Heap will result in a top five tight end in 2008. We recommend that dynasty and deep keeper owners invest in him now, while his value has taken an unexpected dip. Read more

Williams To Be Panthers Lead Back In `08…

February 15, 2008

deangelo-williams1.jpgOur sources have been telling us for some time now that Panthers head coach John Fox is confident in third year RB DeAngelo Williams as his lead back in 2008, due to his improved pass protection skills.  DeShaun Foster’s name has been tossed around in trade rumors, and there have been whispers that Carolina is searching to add a “power back” this offseason to replace him.  While the rumors about adding someone like T.J. Duckett or Ron Dayne may be true, our sources tell us that it would only be as a change of pace to Williams - not the other way around.  In other words, the former University of Memphis workhorse will get his change to be an every down back at the pro level.  A few folks from around the league have mentioned the name Brian Westbrook when asked for a comparison.  Look for Williams to be a breakout fantasy RB in 2008.

To Worry? Or Not To Worry?

February 13, 2008

In seasonal leagues, when a player goes down for a long period of time during the middle of the year, or finishes the season on injured reserve, owners must replace that player and almost forget he ever existed.  Dynasty and deep keeper owners are faced with a different dilemma, however.  Long term owners need to constantly pay attention to how their injured players and others bounce back during the NFL offseason.
