Buy, Hold, or Sell

Buy, Hold, or SellIn this week’s edition of Buy, Hold or Sell we take a look at some more obscure players that many fantasy owners are likely to consider cutting as dynasty rosters are due before upcoming drafts.

Ahmad Bradshaw: While Bradshaw is clearly overshadowed by Brandon Jacobs, dynasty owners need to make a move to acquire him.  Bradshaw is only 23 years old, and showed flashes of brilliance during the 2007 playoffs. With the departure of Derrick Ward, we see Bradshaw playing a much bigger role in the offense to the tune of 150 carries, 700 yards, 30 receptions for 240 yards and 3 TDs, making him a potential top 30 back in PPR leagues. Not a STELLAR season by any means, but for backup material and a long term investment, it’s a nice start. Bradshaw’s contract will expire in two seasons at which point we think teams will be drooling over the then 25 year old who will be entering his prime.

Our real reason for liking Bradshaw is Jacobs’ inability to stay healthy. Since becoming the starter in NY, Jacobs has missed a total of eight games in the past two seasons. You can pretty much guarantee that Bradshaw will get 2-3 starts this season, and we think this will be a chance for him to shine. His versatility as a pass catcher will also be noted and fantasy owners in PPR leagues should view this with great interest.

Bradshaw is an investment with a lot of upside. You will have to be patient, but his value will only increase once the season starts. He is dirt cheap in most leagues right now because of the Brandon Jacobs hype. Bradshaw is a clear BUY for dynasty owners looking to hold someone for long term development.

Limas Sweed: Oh Limas, oh Limas…so much talent, yet we have no idea what to make of you just yet. Your coach seems to think you’re a borderline moron, and so do we, given your inability to pick up the playbook quickly. Thankfully you saved yourself after dropping that wide open touchdown pass in the AFC championship game with a HUGE block on Corey Ivy otherwise Pittsburgh fans would have disowned you.

Sweed has the talent and size to be a stud, but owners will need to patient with him. At this point in the game, Sweed really has no downside coming into this season. He is going to be given every opportunity to replace the departed Nate Washington as the Steelers’ WR3. At 33, Hines Ward is still going strong and flies underneath most fantasy owners’ radars as a great value WR. However, Ward had injuries last year and we think 2010 will be a changing of the guard for Pittsburgh, opening an opportunity for Sweed to be the guy.

Fortunately for Sweed, he is in a great organization with a great young quarterback. You don’t have to worry about Pittsburgh turning into the Bengals, or someone like Shaun Hill throwing him the ball.  Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes should provide great examples for Sweed of what it takes to succeed in the league. Sweed is a two year investment, and we see him as a HOLD at this point in the game. We expect him to emerge with numbers similar to Nate Washington last year, around 40 catches for 500-600 yards. 2010 will be a coming out party for Sweed if things go to plan. Owners be patient.
