Having WR Troubles? We Can Help.

With the likes of Anquan Boldin going down in Week 4, Braylon Edwards, Lav Coles, Jerricho Cotchery, Chansi Stuckey and Torry Holt on bye this week, and several high profile pass catchers flat out slumping big time, the answer to your WR troubles could lie in a 34-year-old man who likely isn’t on a roster in your league.
In fact, he probably hasn’t made an appearance in some leagues since 2003. Amani Toomer has 21 career catches for 315 yards and two TDs in four games against the Seahawks – the Giants’ Week 5 opponent. Eli Manning has looked his way more than ever over the last two weeks, as he’s hauled in 11 catches for 131 yards and a score. Toomer has been targeted 21 times in his last two games – more than Reggie Wayne, Terrell Owens, Brandon Marshall, Andre Johnson, Steve Smith (CAR) and Greg Jennings. Adding to Toomer’s fantasy momentum is that Plaxico Burress is out due to a team suspension. Plax has only missed one game as a Giant until this point, and Toomer will have the opportunity to be the team’s number one pass catching target.
Speaking of the Seahawks visiting the Giants, Seattle’s two leading WRs from a year ago could make their season debuts. Bobby Engram, who caught 94 balls for 1,147 yards and six TDs last year, missed the first four games with a shoulder injury, but could be a solid option against a Giants’ defense that allowed 286 passing yards to the Bengals (who have averaged 129 passing yards in their other three contests) in Week 4. Deion Branch, who averaged 4.5 catches in 11 games last season, may take a little longer to get into the groove after reconstructive knee surgery, but is worth monitoring.
With Anquan Boldin suffering a scare in Week 4 after being sandwiched between two Jets defenders and momentarily losing movement in his extremities, his chances of playing in Week 5 look slim. Second year man Steve Breaston hauled in nine passes for 122 yards in Week 4 and has established himself as the team’s number three WR thus far. The Bills pass defense has been solid but may be without CB Terrence McGee and DT Marcus Stroud, who both left the team’s Week 4 game with undisclosed injuries. A promotion to the Cardinals number two WR spot could make him a great deep sleeper this week, along with Jerheme Urban, who hauled in five passes for 50 yards and a score.
