Angry Jets Lash Out At Brett Favre

It’s typical folks. Typical. Just days after the end of a disappointing season for the New York Jets, in which they missed the playoffs after losing their last two contests, the talk started. An angry Thomas Jones called a New York radio station to dis Favre, while another “anonymous” player voiced his opinion in a cowardly way.
After a 1,312 rushing yard, 15 total TD season at the age of 30, it’s understandable that Thomas Jones would be extremely disappointed after losing against Miami in Week 17 and missing the playoffs. It’s also understandable that the whole Jets organization would be extremely let down after spending a dick load of money this past off-season, adding high priced free agents Alan Faneca, Kris Jenkins and Calvin Pace, while trading for Favre, and expecting him to lead them to the promised land.
After a Week 12 win over the previously undefeated Titans, the Jets looked to be the new class of the AFC, but then suffered bad losses to Denver and San Francisco, brining them right back down to earth. After Week 12, Favre threw nine interceptions and only two TDs. Understandably so, Favre was very disappointed following missing the playoffs, and according to this loud mouth unnamed teammate, he was very “distant” and kept his distance following the loss.
What else would you expect? What would you do? Come on.
Then, in a very classless way, Thomas Jones called Hot 97 FM in New York to sound off regarding Favre’s horrible play, and basically saying he should have been benched - which is a coach’s decision. What’s ironic about that, is Jones also said Favre should be the one forced out of town - not Eric Mangini.
Fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but come on Thomas. Sounding off on a radio station does nothing but make you look stupid and make life harder on GM Mike Tannenbaum, who now has to deal with hiring a new coach, while also communicating with Favre about his future.
When it’s all said and done, Favre will still make the call regarding his future with the Jets, and I promise you it will have nothing at all to do with what Jones or the unnamed teammate (probably Laveranues Coles) said.
Our gut feeling is that Favre will be back in New York next season to try and redeem himself, and Jones - who turns 31 in August and has a replacement already lined up (Leon Washington), will wear out before Favre does.
Be careful what you say Thomas.
