Bears Addition Of Martz Will Help Cutler

Bears Addition Of Martz Will Help CutlerYou’d better believe that the Bears recent addition of Mike Martz as offensive coordinator will have a huge impact on their offense, that appeared very dismal at times in 2009.This is a very hot topic among readers in our Ultimate Strategist Package forums right now, and rightfully so.

After seeing a decrease in yardage by more than 50 per game, and an increase in interceptions from 18 in 2008 to 26 in 2009, dynasty owners of Bears QB Jay Cutler were extremely dejected about his future fantasy prospects in Chicago. Then, as things often do in the NFL off-season, his value drastically changed for the better without him doing anything. The Bears dumped OC Ron Turner, and hired Mike Martz - the king of the Greatest Show on Turf - and voila - Cutler is now extremely relevant again. So relevant, in fact, that we’re debating whether or not to move him up into our top five dynasty QBs for 2010.

As if turning Kurt Warner from an Arena League afterthought at a grocery store bag boy into a Super Bowl champion and NFL MVP wasn’t enough of an accomplishment, Martz then made Jon Kitna and Shaun Hill relevant in fantasy leagues, and gave then Detroit Lions WR Roy Williams his only good NFL season (82 catches for 1,310 yards and seven TDs in 2006).

I’m freaking excited to see what Martz can do in Chicago. To be more specific, not only could Cutler be a top QB option (and great value in 2010 seasonal drafts), but RB Matt Forte - who caught 120 balls combined in his first two NFL seasons, and WRs Devin Aromashodu, Johnny Knox, Devin Hester and Earl Bennett should have a huge bump up in value as well. Forte will be a beast in PPR leagues, and should see huge gaping holes when handed the ball now that Martz will spread out the offense.

All four aforementioned WRs should all see the field at once quite often, and one or two could emerge as top-15 overall WR options due to Martz’s track record.

One player who may not be so fortunate is TE Greg Olsen. Why? Just ask any TE who has ever played for Martz - most recently Vernon Davis. When they do see the field, they don’t see the ball. Sorry - but it may be tough to say goodbye to Greg.
