We Called It: Favre Traded To Jets

We Called It: Favre Traded To Jets We have to He-Man ourselves on this one and give credit where credit is truly due. One month ago, we predicted that Brett Favre would be traded to the New York Jets. SI’s Peter King recently called this summer’s story the most unpredictable story he’s ever covered, and No-Offseason.com predicted the outcome.

Our hands are now tired from patting ourselves on the back for the last hour, since Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer broke the news of the trade. I think I’m the happiest man on the face of the earth right now due to the fact that my sources were right about this one. Wait, then there’s ESPN’s Mike Greenberg, who has been talking non-stop about the possibility of Favre going to the Jets being the greatest thing that could ever happen to him. Greenberg, a life long Jets fan, has been playing Michael Bolton’s How Am I Supposed To Live Without You? tune from the ’80s, yearning for Favre to be traded to New York.

Wait, are Greeny and I as happy as Jets number one WR Laveranues Coles, who at the age of 30, now has one of the game’s all time great QB’s throwing him the rock? Sirius NFL Radio’s Dan Reeves and Randy Cross were recently talking with Phil Simms about how phenomenal Favre is at those quick possession type short throws all over the field in the 10-20 yard range. That’s exactly where Coles is comfortable, so count on them hooking up a ton in 2008, and Coles’ points per reception league value shooting through the roof.

Could we be as happy as Jerricho Cotchery, a fifth year man from North Carolina State, who has hauled in 82 balls in each of the last two seasons? The 26 year old Cotch now looks like a great sleeper in all leagues, especially dynasty formats if Favre plays more than one year in New York. Speaking of that, young first round TE Dustin Keller - who has been compared to Indy’s Dallas Clark - should shoot up the rankings now and have a chance to make a solid impact in deep leagues, as Favre loves the tight end position. The only things holding Keller back are guys named Bubba Franks - who played with Favre in Green Bay - and Chris Baker - who is apparently listed atop the TE depth chart currently in New York.

Don’t forget about Thomas Jones, a 30 year old RB who first got treated to a newly revamped and improved offensive line this off-season, and now does not have to worry about facing 8-man fronts with Favre under center.

But are they all as happy as Aaron Rodgers, the youngster who now takes over for real for Brett in Green Bay?

Are they as happy as Jeff Garcia, who keeps his job in Tampa Bay?

One thing is for sure, two men that are not happy today, are Jets QBs Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens. Pennington will most likely not remain with the team, while Clemens will settle into a back-up role and essentially become “the next Aaron Rodgers.”
