Don’t Forget About The Finishers

Dont Forget About The Finishers Although second year man Le’Ron McClain didn’t score in Week 1, he absolutely carved out a role for himself in the Ravens’ offense. In Week 3, it was clear that role is to finish off drives, as McClain converted twice, while also adding 66 yards on 17 carries. With Willis McGahee likely to be limited to 15 touches per game until his knee is 100 percent, and Ray Rice being forgotten about in Week 3, the 23 year old 260 pounder from Alabama is likely to see all the goal line looks against Pittsburgh in Week 4.

Denver’s Michael Pittman may be 33, but he’s found new life in Mike Shanahan’s offense, having garnered all but one of Denver’s goal line rushing opportunities. Pittman has scored four times already in only 19 attempts, and the fact that Denver’s offense ranks among the top at getting inside the five yard line, and Denver’s Week 4 opponent – Kansas City – has given up the sixth most points via the rush in the league this season, means Pittman is a good bet to get into the end zone again this week.

Reggie Bush is getting the bulk of the load for New Orleans, toting the rock a team high 42 times, but it’s clear that second year man Pierre Thomas is the Saints’ finisher. Thomas has scored three times from inside the five yard line during the team’s last two contests. The Saints have relied on Thomas inside the red zone more often than they’ve let their high-flying passing attack do the work for them. Look for Thomas to score in Week 4 against the 49ers, who allowed goal line scores to Tim Hightower in Week 1 and T.J. Duckett in Week 2.

Speaking of the seven year NFL veteran, Duckett has made a living out of simply scoring touchdowns, and three games into the 2008 NFL season, the man who has averaged seven scores a season during his career while barely carrying the rock more than 100 times a year is back at it again. Duckett scored twice against the Rams in Week 3, after scoring once in Week 2 against the 49ers. It’s no surprise that all of his TDs have come from within the five yard line. Seattle is moving the ball again folks, so when Duckett and the Seahawks return from their Week 4 bye, look for him to be a nice deep sleeper against the Giants in Week 5.
