Week 2 - Who We Like, Who We Dislike

As Sunday gets closer, Week 2 gets crazier and crazier. Marques Colston is already out, Brian Griese has been named the starter in Tampa over Jeff Garcia, and now Packers RB Ryan Grant - among others - looks somewhat questionable for Sunday’s games. However, there are still a few things we can pinpoint in terms of what we like and dislike about Week 2.
First of all, “Captain Obvious” is NOT invited to this party. You won’t see things like “start Adrian Peterson” or “we like Brian Westbrook this week” in this article. Sorry, just had to put that disclaimer out there for those of you who may frequent ESPN or CBS Sports.
Now, down to business.
Which QBs will perform well in Week 2?
We really like Aaron Rodgers at Detroit. The Lions got torched on the ground for 318 yards in Week 1, and will get torched via the aerial game in Week 2, as Aaron Rodgers will find Greg Jennings and Donald Driver for scores. Also, look for Kerry Collins to lead the Titans to a solid game at Cincy. Collins really fits Mike Heimerdinger’s offense much better than Vince Young, and opens up a world of down field passing opportunities. Lastly, Eli Manning visiting the Rams makes our eyebrows stand up a bit, due to the fact that Hank Baskett, DeSean Jackson, Greg Lewis, Jason Avant and L.J. Smith helped Donovan McNabb light them up last week. Look for Manning to find Plaxico Burress all day for a huge game in Week 2.
Which QBs will flop in Week 2?
We don’t like Carson Palmer against the Titans, nor do we like Matt Ryan against the Bucs.
Which RBs will perform well in Week 2?
Ryan Grant practiced fully on Friday and looked great after not practicing earlier in the week. He also looked solid on Monday night against the Vikings. Quite simply, if he plays - and it is likely that he will - he’ll have a HUGE day against the Lions - and I mean HUGE. If he’s inactive, look for Brandon Jackson to step in and be worthy of starting at an RB2 spot against the lowly Lions. Monitor Grant’s situation. If he’s active, he’s a MUST START.
I also really like DeAngelo Williams vs. Chicago, LenDale White and Chris Johnson at Cincy, Felix Jones on Monday night against the Eagles, Earnest Graham vs. Atlanta and my boy Tim Hightower against the Dolphins. Expect Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown to play much better against Arizona in Week 2.
Which RBs will flop in Week 2?
Well, there are two guys that should be in all fantasy line-ups, due to their star caliber, but may not produce well. Michael Turner is one of them. He will not pick up where he left off last week against Detroit. Tampa’s defense is much better than the Lions’ and while he needs to be in line-ups, he won’t carry fantasy team the way he did last week. Joseph Addai visits the Vikings, where he could struggle on the ground. In PPR leagues though, he should definitely be in all line-ups. Expect Chris Perry to struggle against the Titans, and Edgerrin James to lose carries to Tim Hightower and not make a huge impact against the ‘Phins.
Which WRs perform well in Week 2?
Well, we already hit on Jennings and Driver, who should have huge days against Detroit. Don’t be surprised if Packers’ third WR James Jones is active and lights up the scoreboard as well, but it all depends on the status of his knee.
Watch out for David Patten against Washington. He should be the man in PPR leagues with Colston out. Santonio Holmes will bounce back and have a huge week against Cleveland, and Anthony Gonzalez will have a solid outing with Dallas Clark out of the Colts’ line-up. We also really like Dwayne Bowe against a horrible Raiders defense - it doesn’t matter who is tossing the rock against that bunch of bandits.
Avoid Darrell Jackson in Denver with the return of Brandon Marshall.
What about the TE position?
Look for Todd Heap to bounce back and play well against the Texans, Tony Gonzalez to light up the Raiders and Chris Cooley to have a solid week against the Saints.
We’re not quite sold on Dante Rosario yet, so proceed with caution when leaning on the young Panthers’ TE.
Who are this week’s IDPs to watch?
Kabeer Gbajia-Biamilia and A.J. Hawk at Detroit, Chad Greenway vs. Indy and Freddie Keiaho at Minnesota, LaMarr Woodley vs. Cleveland and of course, our IDP sleeper of the week - Justin Smith. The San Francisco DE played seven positions last week against Arizona, making him a big play threat and someone who can also rack up the tackles. Look for him to have a big day against Seattle.
