Week 8 - Who We Like, Who We Dislike

Week 8 - Who We Like, Who We Dislike We said we loved Texans RB Steve Slaton a week ago, and he came through with 80 rushing yards and a TD against the Lions. We expect him to do even more than that against the horrible Bengals defense that was lit up for three scores by Mewelde Moore last week.

Who we like…

Slaton, a rookie from West Virginia, will see at least 15 touches, even with Ahman Green playing somewhat of a “vulture” role lately. Look, Slaton has proved that he can perform against tough run defenses, gaining 116 yards and a TD on the ground against the Titans, and he’s proved that he can produce in various ways, catching eight balls for 83 yards and a TD against the Jags earlier this season. Green will get injured sooner or later and the entire load will go back to Slaton. The guy is money whether he sees 10 carries or 20. He needs to be in line-ups from now on.

Other RBs we like this week include Clinton Portis against the Lions - man that’s going to be sick - Thomas Jones against the Chiefs, and even Leon Washington against the Chiefs for owners in desperate situations. We like Willie Parker to come back strong against the Giants and post solid digits, and Chris Johnson and LenDale White to keep up the strong work against the Colts.

From a WR perspective, we’re definitely feeling Marques Colston against the Chargers, Santana Moss against the Lions, and potentially Chansi Stuckey against the Chiefs, who could see a lot of playing time if Lav Coles and Jerricho Cotchery are both out or limited. Also, keep an eye on Brad Smith and Dustin Keller if that’s the case as well. Speaking of TEs, We LOVE Chris Cooley against the “Lie-Downs” and John Carlson against the 49ers - as the rookie has a TD in each of his last two games.

From a defensive standpoint, the Texans defense should get to Bengals QB Ryan Fitzpatrick several times, making them a solid play in big play team defense leagues, while IDPs Julian Peterson, Marlin Jackson, Michael Griffin, Chris Hope, Justin Smith and Andre Carter look like great sleeper plays in all formats.

Signal callers we like this week include Brett Favre against the Chiefs, Donovan McNabb against Atlanta, Matt Schaub against Cincy and J.T. O’Sullivan against the Seahawks - believe it or not.

Who we dislike…

QBs we’re NOT fond of include Matt Ryan at Philly, Marc Bulger at New England and the obvious ones - Seneca Wallace at San Francisco and Dan Orlovsky hosting Washington.

We’re not fond of Sammy Morris’ situation, as he’s likely to be a game-time decision with knee issues now. We do not like Edgerrin James, Anquan Boldin, and to a certain extent Larry Fitzgerald against the Panthers, after they shut down the Saints last week.

From a TE perspective, we’ve lost faith that Kevin Boss will ever be a consistent option for Eli Manning. Steve Smith has that role locked down.

Lastly, beware of DeMarcus Ware’s consecutive games with a sack streak coming to an end against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
