Fantasy Impact Of Jay Cutler Situation

Fantasy Impact Of Jay Cutler SituationI was chatting with an owner in one of my main dynasty leagues the other day, and he was trying to trade me Jay Cutler for a pair of second round dynasty draft picks in 2009. Even though Cutler is the guy I’ve been drooling over all off-season, picturing 40 TDs and close to 5,000 yards from him in 2009, this situation in Denver had me worried enough to decline the offer for now.

Was it because I was afraid that Cutler may end up elsewhere? Or was it because I was concerned he may stay in Denver and be unhappy? Now that I look back on it, I’m really not sure, because - quite frankly - regardless of where Cutler ends up, I expect him to be a top two fantasy QB in 2009 and beyond. The kid just has it. He’s smart, confident, and has a phenomenal rifle arm.

Fantasy owners that should be worried about the Cutler situation, are not Cutler owners. Owners of Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal and Tony Scheffer should be worried about the Cutler situation. But they shouldn’t freak out. Have faith that the Broncos will only trade Cutler if they can get a solid QB in return. However, the fact remains that if Cutler ends up elsewhere due to his spat with Josh McDaniels and owner Pat Bowlen, the Broncos offense will not be as good as it would have been with Cutler at the helm.

The situation is still too convoluted to really know what will happen come Week 1 of 2009. For now, owners of all players involved need to assume Cutler will be in Denver posting huge digits in McDaniels’ powerful spread offense.
