Michigan State’s Kellen Davis is a guy who’s draft stock is climbing. The 6′7″ beast is strong, fast, has great hands, and can actually line up at either TE or DE. That’s right folks, he’s an iron man - but where will he go? Find out as we continue the second round of our NFL Mock Draft.
52. “The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Select…” Kellen Davis, TE, Michigan State -We had Tampa select Texas’ Limas Sweed in round one, and we think Jon Gruden goes back to the offensive side of the ball here and adds Michigan’s State’s Kellen Davis in round two. We know Davis will fall around this spot, and despite the fact that they already have Alex Smith and just signed Ben Troupe, Davis is actually a good fit for Tampa. He’s a project with a high ceiling, but has the potential to beat out Smith and Troupe. Ironically, his first name is Kellen (as in Winslow) and his last name is Davis (as in Vernon). We believe he could be a cross between the two players. He also played DE in college, so he’s sure to be a solid special teams contributor in the early years of his career.
53. “The Pittsburgh Steelers Select…”Lavelle Hawkins, WR, California -Hawkins is someone we could see landing at the end of round two, even though he’s been overshadowed by DeSean Jackson over the last few months. The Steelers have Hines Ward and up-and-coming fantasy stud Santonio Holmes, but not much depth at WR. After Mike Tomlin addresses defense in round one, he’ll go WR in round two. Whoever he takes here might be a solid dynasty player to keep an eye on.
54. “The Tennessee Titans Select…” Trevor Laws, DT, Notre Dame - The Titans will want to address the defensive line position due to the fact that Albert Haynesworth is franchised this year, but could become an UFA in 2009. Jeff Fisher’s squad is built on defense, and Laws is the perfect type of player to compliment their squad. He’ll be a reserve in year one, but an eventual starter for the defensive minded Titans.
55. “The Seattle Seahawks Select…” Andre Caldwell, WR, Florida -Due to Deion Branch’s ACL injury and the loss of D.J. Hackett to free agency, the Seahawks will need to address the WR position during this year’s draft. The second round is going to be jam packed with WRs this year, and Caldwell might not go until round three, but he’s the type of big, solid, fundamentally sound WR that would fit in well in Seattle’s West Coast offense. The brother of Reche “Eyes” Caldwell had a great combine and upped his stock. After adding Purdue TE Dustin Heller in round one, Caldwell is a solid addition.
56. “The Green Bay Packers Select…” Tracy Porter, CB, Indiana -The Packers are one of the most well-rounded, deepest teams from a talent standpoint in the entire NFL, that’s way we believe they will do nothing but add depth to their defense throughout the entire draft. They snagged DE Calias Campbell in round one, and will go with the best available CB in round two, which at this point is Indiana’s Tracy Porter.
