Ride The Hot Hands

You may have one of fantasy football’s hottest WRs over the last few weeks on your squad, but have you started him? St. Louis’ Donnie Avery has scored in three of his last four games, and had a career high six catches for 163 yards and a TD in Week 8. Should you start him in Week 9?
Absolutely. Ride the hot hands folks. Avery has quickly become Marc Bulger’s favorite target, and while Torry Holt is sure to benefit eventually, for the time being it looks like Avery is primed to put up huge numbers every week. Ride the Avery wave while he’s hot, because he’s a Lee Evans type of player, and he’s sure to be streaky. The Rams face the Cardinals this week in a game that should feature a ton of of aerial action, and could end up being the shootout of the year. Avery should be in all starting line-ups, regardless of league scoring formats.
Another player who should be in all line-ups happens to be on the other sideline, and it’s not who you think. Cardinals WR Steve Breaston has been on fire over his last four games, catching 34 balls (seven or more in each game) for nearly 400 yards and a TD. Even with Anquan Boldin back in the line-up last week, Breaston caught nine balls for 91 yards, making him a solid points per reception option, as the Cards are using the possession passing game far more than the run.
Another player with a hot hand that you may have left on your bench in recent weeks is Houston’s Kevin Walter. He has five scores on the season, including two last week against the Bengals, and is a good bet to get into the end zone again in Week 9 against the Vikings.
However, our real no-brainer hot hand WR pick of the Week goes to Tampa’s Antonio Bryant, who faces the Kansas City Chiefs. Bryant has taken over as Tampa’s number one WR, and has hauled in six or more passes in three of his last four games. Expect Bryant to light it up against the Chiefs, and consider him a must start regardless of format.
