We Were Right About, We Were Wrong About

We’re not always right about everything, but we can say that we’re definitely correct more often than not, and we’re damn good at predicting sleepers (he-man). This week, we said that Saints WRs Lance Moore and Robert Meachem would be worthy of picking up and inserting into line-ups. Find out how Moore, Meachem and others we told you to play or avoid did in Week 4
We Were Right About…
Lance Moore, Saints WR - We strongly advised fantasy owners to pick up the 5′9″ second year return man and insert him into their line-ups as a deep sleeper WR3 this week against the San Francisco 49ers this week, with David Patten nursing a sore groin and Jeremy Shockey and Marques Colston out. Moore hauled in seven balls for 101 yards and two scores, and could be Drew Brees’ favorite target next week at home against the Vikings.
Robert Meachem, Saints WR - The second year 6′3″ man from Tennessee has looked good so far this season, and we knew he was capable of doing some damage against the 49ers, with Patten, Shockey and Colston injured. Drew Brees spreads the ball around nicely, and gets multiple receivers involved each week. If you listed to us, you may have cashed in to the tune of two catches for 99 yards and a score.
David Garrard, Jaguars QB - Not only did we say we liked Garrard to have a solid week, but we also said he would get into the end zone with his feet, as well as via the air. The Jags’ signal caller threw for a season-high 236 yards and a score, rushed seven times for 41 yards and a TD. He has two good match-ups in the next two weeks against Pittsburgh and the Broncos prior to heading into a Week 7 bye.
Brett Favre, Jets QB - Not only was Favre ranked very high in all of our rankings this week, but we also told fantasy owners on our USP forums to start him if they had him. We expected some magic, and our gut feeling was right on the money, as Favre tossed the rock for 289 yards and a career-high six TDs. CBS’s Dan Marino may have shrugged off the accomplishment, but we’re certainly not doing that. Favre has a Week 5 bye, then very solid match-ups against the Bengals, Raiders, Chiefs, Bills and Rams. We love him, and all of his pass catching targets - Lav Coles, Jerricho Cotchery, Dustin Keller and Chansi Stuckey, down the stretch run.
Dwayne Bowe, Chiefs WR - The second year man from LSU didn’t exactly have a breakout game, but he was very solid in the Chiefs’ win over Denver, hauling in seven passes for 85 yards. Bowe has a tough match-up against the Panthers next week prior to the Chiefs’ bye.
Tony Gonzalez, Chiefs TE - We knew Gonzo would finally get on the map with Damon Huard aboard this week, and even though it took him a while, he caught three passes in the second half, for a TD and more than 40 yards receiving. Gonzo is a must-start against the Panthers in Week 5.
Jake Delhomme, Panthers QB - Even though he hadn’t done jack squat in his last two contests, and hadn’t thrown more than 200 yards or a TD since Week 1, we told owners that Jake Delhomme would have a great week against Atlanta in Week 4. We were certainly right about Delhomme, who completed 20 of 29 tosses for 294 yards and two scores. He looks like a great fantasy QB1 option in three of his next four games, against the Chiefs (Week 5), Saints (Week 7) and Cardinals (Week 8).
Donnie Avery, Rams WR - The rookie from Houston made his first NFL start this week, and we told owners that he wouldn’t be a bad super sleeper flier WR3 in desperation situations. Given the fact that he caught three passes for 22 yards and rushed for a 37 yard TD, we’d say we were right about Avery.
Jordy Nelson, Packers WR - Like Avery, we told owners that Nelson would also be a solid pick up in deep leagues, as he is now the Packers’ WR3 with James Jones out with knee trouble. Nelson caught four balls for the second straight game, and should continue to be a factor. The 6′3″ rookie could be cutting into Donald Driver’s fantasy value, as Driver only had one catch for eight yards.
Steve Slaton, Texans RB - We broke down Steve Slaton and told fantasy owners last week that he was absolutely the real freaking deal. We told owners he’d also be a great flex play against the Jaguars this week - but only in PPR leagues. He only rushed 10 times for just more than 30 yards, but he caught eight balls for 83 yards and a TD. We’d say we pretty much nailed that one.
Steve Smith, Panthers WR - Smith was kind of a no-brainer against the Falcons secondary, but he lit them up for six catches for 96 yards and a score. He’s a must start against a very young Chiefs secondary next week.
We Were Wrong About…
Chris Johnson, Titans RB - Well, we need to apologize to not only Johnson, but his fantasy owners. Look, this kid is the real deal. He made the Vikings run defense look very mortal, rushing 17 times for 61 yards and two TDs, while adding three catches for 14 yards. We’ve loved Johnson from the day he was drafted, but doubted him this week. Our mistake.
Matt Schaub, Texans QB - We told owners to basically avoid Schaub this week against Jacksonville, thinking he would maybe even be benched for Sage Rosenfels at some point. Well, he threw for 307 yards and three TDs, leaving us shaking our heads as to what to tell fantasy owners to do with him. It’s obvious he’s inconsistent, but he plays his next four games at home, against the Colts, Dolphins, Lions and Bengals. With that schedule, Schaub owners need to keep him on their roster.
Adrian Peterson, Vikings RB - AP hadn’t scored since Week 1, and we didn’t think the match-up against the Titans suited him. Obviously, we told his owners to keep him in their line-ups, and we’re glad we did, as he went for 80 yards and two TDs on 18 carries and caught four passes. Still, we said we didn’t like him very much this week, which means we were wrong about AP.
Maurice Jones-Drew, Jaguars RB - We thought MoJo would absolutely blow up against the Houston Texans, but he only garnered 49 total yards. The Jags’ offense as a whole looked good, but David Garrard was the star, and nobody else was really fantasy worthy in Jacksonville’s offense. MoJo should be a solid start next week against Pittsburgh, however.
