We Were Right About, We Were Wrong About

We Were Right About, We Were Wrong About We’ve made some extremely nice predictions lately - from identifying legit sleeper wide receivers, running backs and tight ends, to solidifying some new must start players like Carolina’s DeAngelo Williams and Atlanta’s Michael Turner. Even though bad weather affected a lot of the games in Week 13, making it a low-scoring week, we were right on with most of our predictions.

We were right about…

DeAngelo Williams, Panthers RB - We told owners that DeAngelo Williams was officially a must-start moving forward. Heading into Week 13, he had rushed for more than 100 yards and a TD in four straight games. The third year man from Memphis rushed for 72 yards and four TDs against the Packers in Week 13, and needs to be in all fantasy line-ups against the Bucs in Week 14 and Broncos in Week 15. His phenomenal dominance is slowly but surely killing the 2009 outlook of rookie Jonathan Stewart, as Williams is under contract with Carolina for a few more seasons.

Michael Turner, Falcons RB - Like Williams, above, we made it a point to let fantasy owners know that Turner is a guy that absolutely needs to be in line-ups every week, regardless of his match-up. He continued to prove us correct as he rushed for 121 yards on 31 carries against his former team, the San Diego Chargers.

Larry Johnson, Chiefs RB - We were the first website to come out and endorse fantasy owners using Larry Johnson following his four week hiatus. We told fantasy owners he’d be a legit RB2 in Week 13, and he made us look good, carrying the rock 24 times for 92 yards and a TD. He can absolutely play, and actually fits well in the Chiefs’ new spread offense. The upcoming schedule is light as well, so look to continue to put L.J. in your line-ups if you’ve got him.

Davone Bess, Dolphins WR - We gave fantasy owners a big head’s up that Dolphins’ rookie WR Davone Bess would immediately become a solid fantasy option in PPR leagues, upon the placement of Greg Camarillo on injured reserve. Bess led the Dolphins in receiving with six catches for 84 yards.

Harry Douglas, Falcons WR - Like Bess, Douglas is another potent rookie WR, emerging on a very solid NFL team, the Atlanta Falcons. As rookie QB Matt Ryan has become more and more comfortable running the Falcons offense, OC Mike Mularkey has been able to install more three WR sets. This is huge for Douglas, a 5′11″, 174 lb. playmaker from Louisville. We told fantasy owners to grab him immediately after a breakout Week 12 performance against Carolina. So far, so good, as he caught three passes for 13 yards and a TD in Week 13 at San Diego.

Chris Johnson and LenDale White, Titans RBs - Even though he had only rushed for just more than 100 yards combined in his previous three games, and hadn’t reached the end zone since Week 9, we ranked Titans rookie RB Chris Johnson number one in our Week 13 rankings, and called him an absolute must-start against the Lions on Thanksgiving Day. Johnson lit up the Lions for 125 yards and two TDs on only 16 carries. But wait, our predictions didn’t stop there. We had faith that LenDale White, the other member of Tennessee’s potent backfield, would also be a solid starting option on Thanksgiving Day, in spite of the fact that he had only one carry for negative one yard the week prior, and hadn’t reached the end zone since Week 10. White made us look great, rushing 23 times for 106 yards and two TDs.

Terrell Owens, Cowboys WR - After five straight weeks of not surpassing 38 yards receiving, we started jocking T.O. heading into Week 12 against the 49ers. We told owners to have faith that Romo’s return would benefit Owens in a big way - not to mention the fact that the schedule was getting friendlier quickly for the Cowboys. Not only did he become the first WR in 2008 to reach 200 yards receiving in a game, but he followed it up with a solid performance on Thanksgiving against the Seahawks, grabbing five passes for 98 yards and a score.

Tony Scheffler, Broncos TE - Our Ultimate Strategist Package subscribers asked us what to do with Scheffler this week. We said, quite simply - if you’ve got him, start him against the Jets. He proved us right, hauling in seven passes for 90 yards.

Dustin Keller, Jets TE - Ever since we wrote about Dustin Keller being a future fantasy stud a few weeks ago, he has hauled six or more catches in each of his last four games, including a team-leading seven balls for 77 yards in Week 13. Keller is a receiver trapped in a tight end’s body, and will continue to get better and better. In the meantime, he has absolutely already become a legit weekly starting option in all leagues.

Zach Miller, Raiders TE - We told owners that Zach Miller would be a solid sleeper TE option in PPR leagues against the Kansas City Chiefs this week. Miller caught five passes for 79 yards. QB JaMarcus Russell only completed 10 passes, and five of them were to Miller. The second year man from Arizona State will continue to be a solid PPR option for the remainder of the season.

Steve Breaston, Cardinals WR - We said owners should start Breaston at Philly on Thanksgiving night, due to the fact that the Eagles defense would be focusing on stopping Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. Breaston ended up being the only Cards receiver to reach the end zone in Week 13, catching six balls for 45 yards and a score.

We were wrong about…

Dallas Clark, Colts TE - We thought Clark would have a huge game against the Browns in Week 13, but due to slippery, wet conditions, the Colts passing game couldn’t get going, and the star TE only ended up with two catches for 24 yards. Look for him to bounce back and have a big next couple of weeks against the Bengals and Lions.

Chad Pennington, Dolphins QB - After a 341 yard, three passing TD and one rushing TD performance against the Patriots in Week 12, it looked like Chad Pennington would be a shoe-in for another dominant performance against the lowly Rams in Week 13. Unfortunately, even in the dome, he only threw for 166 yards and didn’t account for a TD.

Chris Chambers, Chargers WR - After coming back to catch six passes for 61 yards against the Colts in Week 12, we thought it was likely that Chris Chambers could put together a string of solid performances and become a sleeper WR2 for the rest of the NFL season. However, he only caught one ball for two yards against the Falcons, and is being flat out out-played by teammates Malcolm Floyd and Vincent Jackson.
