malcolm-kelly.jpgWe’re cooking with gas now in our one-man NFL mock draft.  As we peek at picks 6-10, we’ll check out the prognosis of Oklahoma’s Malcolm Kelly, who there’s been plenty of speculation about recently.  Let’s continue to get into the nitty gritty of the 2008 NFL Draft.

11. “The Buffalo Bills Select…” Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma - Kelly entered the month of March as the favorite to be the first WR selected in the 2008 NFL Draft, despite not working out at the combine due to a quad injury.  Then, in typical fashion, rumors started to surface about the possibility of Kelly’s quad problems being associated with potential recurring knee injuries.  The young man’s pro day will be here fast enough, and we can evaluate the situation more at that time, but in the meantime, we believe he could be the perfect fit in Buffalo, starting across from Lee Evans.  The Bills did a great job strengthening their run game by adding Marshawn Lynch in the first round last year, now they need to do the same thing by snagging the 6′4″ Kelly to improve their aerial attack.

12. “The Denver Broncos Select…” Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan State - Nobody’s draft stock is soaring faster than Thomas’, after blazing forty times and impressing the scouts in just about every area imaginable at the combine.  Look folks, I’ve seen this kid play many times and he’s the real deal.  With Brandon Marshall’s recent injury, the Broncos would start Brandon Stokley and Keary Colbert at WR if the season started today.  In other words, don’t be surprised to see them take a calculated risk in the first round on a playmaker like Thomas.

13. “The Carolina Panthers Select…” Ryan Clady, OT, Boise State - Clady is a good enough prospect to go in the top 10, and Carolina will be thrilled to add him, or Vanderbilt’s Chris Williams, to try and strengthen a pourus offensive line.  Many folks have mis-interpreted the Carolina Panthers need for a running back to mean that they’re not sold on RB DeAngelo Williams.  We expect John Fox’s squad to add a back-up to Williams - their clear cut starter - in either the second or third round.

14. “The Chicago Bears Select…” Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt - Williams could land a spot ahead of this to Carolina, but since he falls in our mock, the Bears find themselves in a tough spot.  They need a running back, but with McFadden and Mendenhall both off the board, they feel it’s too early to invest in a runner.  Chicago snags Williams, as you never can have too many legit offensive linemen, and look to take an RB like Rutgers’ Ray Rice in round two.

15. “The Detroit Lions Select…” Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida - The Lions really need to take an OT or a CB with this pick, but they’re notorious for ignoring their most glaring needs and taking a luxury.  Harvey is a great player, and will be selected due to Rod Marinelli’s infatuation with defensive linemen, but overall this will not be a good pick for Detroit.  Another option here is a CB like Mike Jenkins or an RB like Jonathan Stewart.
