Stafford doing well

March 13, 2010

The News
Matthew Stafford (knee, shoulder) is expected to be healthy enough to participate in Lions OTAs next week, according to the Detroit News.

Our View
Expect his workload to be extremely light, however. While Detroit needs better pass protection, Stafford also needs to stay on the field more in 2010.

Fargas struggling to find a suitor

March 13, 2010

The News
According to Pro Football Talk, "nobody wants (free agent running back) Justin Fargas.

Tomlinson still in New York

March 13, 2010

The News
LaDainian Tomlinson stayed overnight in the New York City area on Friday night, fueling speculation that he may soon be signing with the Jets, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Our View
L.T. could certainly expect more touches in New York than Minnesota, so signing with Gang Green makes a lot of sense on paper. A resolution to his job search could come as early as today, so stay tuned.

Welker also has torn rotator cuff

March 13, 2010

The News
It has been revealed that Wes Welker is also recovering from a torn rotator cuff, along with torn knee ligaments, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View
It is uncertain exactly where Welker injured his rotator cuff. There has been speculation that he won't be ready to return to the gridiron until around Thanksgiving, and Julian Edelman looks like a preferred receiver to have on fantasy rosters early in the 2010 campaign.

Fraley to visit Kansas City

March 12, 2010

The News
Hank Fraley is expected to visit the Chiefs Monday, according to Jason LaCanfora's (NFL Network) twitter page.

Our View
The team already added to their offensive line today with the signing of Casey Wiegmann. Fraley was a team captain with the Browns before being released in early March, and will provide good veteran leadership if the Chiefs decide to sign him too.

Browns don’t want Fargas

March 12, 2010

The News
The Browns are not interested in signing Justin Fargas, according to Mary Kay Cabot's (Cleveland Plain Dealer) twitter page.

Our View
Fargas visited Cleveland Thursday, but apparently he did not impress the team. It was recently reported that the veteran running back failed his physical before his release by the Raiders.

Walker looking for a fresh start

March 12, 2010

The News
Javon Walker feels that he has regained his explosiveness, and is looking for a fresh start following a disappointing two-season stint in Oakland, according to NFL.com.

Our View
Walker has a poor track record with durability, but should garner some attention based on his past success in the NFL. The 31-year-old vet could potentially make an impact again if everything falls into place for him, but that appears to be a big "if" as of now.

Lilja to visit Kansas City

March 12, 2010

The News
Ryan Lilja is slated to visit the Chiefs Monday, according to NFL.com.

Our View
The Chiefs already signed center Casey Wiegmann, and are bringing in Lilja as another option to help improve their shoddy offensive line. Lilja was released by the Colts last week.

Bush to remain with Saints

March 12, 2010

The News
Reggie Bush will remain with the Saints at a salary of $8MM for 2010, according to ProFootballTalk.com. He earned $2.585MM last season.

Our View
That price is steep for a backup running back, but he is a fan favorite and is still a threat to score every time he touches the ball. The team is hanging onto him while they defend their Super Bowl title in 2010.

Browns drop Heiden

March 12, 2010

The News
Steve Heiden has been released by the Browns, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View
Heiden was cut loose on the same day that the Browns reeled in Ben Watson. He may have trouble finding work with another team, as he is coming off a season-ending ankle injury.

March 12, 2010

The News
Ryan Pickett has inked a long-term extension with the Packers, according to Adam Schefter's (ESPN) twitter page. His contract goes through the 2013 season, but financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View
The tough defensive tackle was an anchor for Green Bay's run defense in 2009, which finished the season ranked No. 1 in the NFL.

Diggs visits St. Louis

March 12, 2010

The News
Na'il Diggs is visiting the Rams, according to Darin Gantt's twitter page. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch originally released the news.

Our View
Diggs is a quality veteran linebacker, and would be reunited with defensive coordinator Ken Flajole if signed by St. Louis. His IDP stock probably wouldn't improve much though.

Collins remains with Packers

March 12, 2010

The News
Nick Collins has signed a three-year deal worth $23.4MM to remain with the Packers, according to Tom Silverstein's (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel) twitter page. The extension will pay him $14MM in the first year.

Locking up Collins with an extension was a priority for the Packers, as he has developed into an elite free safety.

Ayodele to visit San Francisco

March 12, 2010

The News
Akin Ayodele is slated to visit the 49ers Monday, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.

Our View
Ayodele could provide quality depth at inside linebacker behind stud Patrick Willis and Takeo Spikes in San Francisco, but his IDP value would remain limited.

Buccaneers sign Alston

March 12, 2010

The News
Jon Alston has signed a deal with the Buccaneers, according to the Tampa Tribune on twitter.

Our View
Alston will provide quality depth at weak-side linebacker behind Geno Hayes, and should also be a solid contributor on special teams coverage. His fantasy stock looks to remain low though.

Colts add Terry

March 12, 2010

The News
Adam Terry has reached a one-year deal with the Colts, according to Adam Schefter's (ESPN) twitter page.

Our View
The Colts do not have to give any compensation, as Baltimore did not place a tender on Terry. The Colts are taking a flier on Terry, who was a solid offensive lineman prior to missing the 2009 campaign due to knee surgery.

Seahawks want Chris Baker

March 12, 2010

The News
The Seahawks are trying to land Chris Baker, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View
The club is keeping him in Seattle for a second straight night, in a bid to sign him. He is a good blocker and would be a nice complement at tight end to John Carlson. His fantasy stock would remain low though.

March 12, 2010

The News
LaDainian Tomlinson will have dinner with GM Mike Tannenbaum and other members of the Jets' staff tonight, and will stay on the East Coast overnight, according to ESPN.

Our View

Chiefs add Wiegmann

March 12, 2010

The News
Casey Wiegmann has agreed to a one-year deal with the Chiefs, according to Jason LaCanfora's (NFL Network) twitter page.

Our View
Kansas City is also going to meet with Ryan Lilja, in their quest to improve their unstable offensive line. The 36-year-old Wiegmann brings veteran experience, and made 168 starts in his career.

L. Johnson bound for Washington

March 12, 2010

The News
Larry Johnson has agreed to a three-year deal with the Redskins, according to Adam Schefter's (ESPN) twitter page. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View
Johnson fared well during limited action in Cincinnati last season, and should push Clinton Portis for playing time in 2010. The Redskins really need to improve their shoddy offensive line for either back to be successful though.

Strickland bound for San Diego

March 12, 2010

The News
Donald Strickland has agreed to a two-year deal with the Chargers, according to Adam Schefter's (ESPN) twitter page. He was released by the Jets last week.

Our View
Strickland is capable of being a solid cornerback, but his 2009 campaign was spoiled by injuries. This looks to be a quality signing for San Diego, assuming Strickland will bounce back healthy.

Foote to visit Pittsburgh

March 12, 2010

The News
Larry Foote is slated to visit the Steelers Monday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View
Foote could reach a deal to return to his former club if he passes a physical. He would serve in a backup role though, hence limiting his fantasy value. The veteran linebacker led the Lions with 99 tackles in 2009.

Hood re-signs with Titans

March 12, 2010

The News
The Titans have re-signed Rod Hood, according to the Carroll County Times.

Our View
Hood is an unspectacular but solid cornerback who still should have a number of good seasons ahead of him at 28 years of age. This seems like a good signing by the Titans.

Davis signs on with Bengals

March 12, 2010

The News
The Bengals have signed Chris Davis, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View
The former Titans receiver comes with some baggage (he's currently on probation for reckless driving), so it shouldn't come as a surprise that Cincinnati pursued him. He'll look to make the team as a backup and special teamer.

Baskett signs one-year deal with Eagles

March 12, 2010

The News
Hank Baskett has signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia, according to ESPN.com.

Our View
Baskett will reunite with the Eagles after spending most of last season with the Eagles. Unfortunately, his only memorable play with the Colts came when he botched a recovery of an onside kick at the opening of the second half in the Super Bowl. At his point, he's probably better known for being a reality star due to his marriage with former Playboy playmate Kendra Wilkinson than he is for his football career, needless to say he won't be fantasy relevant any time soon, if ever.

Seattle picks up Hasselbeck’s roster bonus

March 12, 2010

The News
The Seahawks have picked up Matt Hasselbeck's $1 million roster bonus, according to NFL insider Adam Caplan.

Our View
The Seahawks have not made their pursuit of a new, young quarterback this offseason any secret, though Hasselbeck is still the best bet to open 2010 as the team's starter. While his best days are behind him, he'd still figure to have a season or two left in him as an NFL-caliber starter.

Watson inks three-year deal with Cleveland

March 12, 2010

The News
The Browns have signed Ben Watson to a three-year, $12 million deal, according to ESPN.com.

Our View
Watson, who will get $6.35 in guaranteed money, was choosing between the Seahawks and Browns and ended up opting for Cleveland. The six-year veteran has been a fringe fantasy player for most of his career and should continue to be so with the Browns.

Cards re-sign Claxton

March 12, 2010

The News
According to Ralph Cindrich on Twitter, the Cardinals have re-signed center Ben Claxton to a one-year contract.

Our View
He will fight for a roster spot in camp and will back up Lyle Sendlein if he makes the cut.

Cards lock up Hadnot

March 11, 2010

The News
According to Jason La Canfora on Twitter, the Cardinals signed offensive lineman Rex Hadnot to a three-year, $9 million deal on Thursday.

Our View
This comes fresh on the heels of the Jeremy Bridges signing. The only problem is that the Cards have a hole to fill at right tackle, but neither of the new signees are particularly adept at that position. Hadnot is more experienced at guard and center, so expect some shuffling.

Jets sign Pool

March 11, 2010

The News
According to Adam Schefter on Twitter, the Jets have signed former Browns safety Brodney Pool to a one-year, $1.3 million contract.

Our View
Pool is a hard-hitting safety, but has been plagued with concussions throughout his career, so don't expect the Browns to stop adding depth at the position. If he pans out though he'll be a steal at $1.3 mil.
