Maybin could start for Bills
July 3, 2009
The News
According to a report on BuffaloBills.com, rookie defensive end Aaron Maybin has a realistic chance to start for the team this season. If Maybin shows he can be effective against the run, he seems to have an excellent chance to win the job.
Our View
Even if he isn't on the field for every down in the beginning of the season, he should be a situational pass rusher at worst this year. He is an exceptional pass rusher, and he could hold some value in IDP leagues, especially if he wins the job.

Vick could play in UFL
July 3, 2009
The News
TSN is reporting that ex-Falcons' quarterback Michael Vick may have an opportunity to play in the new UFL this season. UFL commissioner Michael Huyghus told the media "One of the things that is important in our premiere season is to showcase the quality of talent and the coaches, and to be able to show outstanding players who find themselves in this quagmire the NFL creates," Huyghue said. "Michael Vick might be that kind of player because he is ... a phenomenal talent, but he needs transitionining back into the NFL."
Our View
Vick's NFL status for this season is very much in doubt, and at this point the best move for Vick seems to be the UFL. He can showcase himself in a competitve setting, and more importantly he can do it at the quarterback position. We will keep you updated on the situation.

Titans ink Cook
July 2, 2009
The News
Rookie tight end Jared Cook inked a four-year deal with the Titans, according to the Tennessean. He will earn $310,000 this season, $395,000 in 2010, $480,000 in 2011, and $565,000 in the final year of the contract.
Our View
Cook has turned heads in practice with fantastic catches, and the Titans intend to use his size (6-5, 246 pounds) and good athletic ability to create mismatches. He should register a blip on the fantasy radar as a rookie, but his playing time will be limited while stuck behind Bo Scaife and Alge Crumpler on the depth chart at tight end. He is worth targeting in keeper leagues.

The Panthers claimed rookie tight end Andrew Davie off waivers from the New York Jets on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.
Our View
"Rookie" isn't exactly the right word for Davie, as he is 26. But he has spent the last four years in the St. Louis Cardinals minor league baseball system, and not on a football field. He's probably a longshot to make the Panthers at this point, but a good story to keep an eye on.

Gholston not impressing
July 2, 2009
The News
According to Adam Schefter's Twitter account, Vernon Gholston has not impressed in OTAs so far this offseason.
Our View
Gholston, the Jets' first-round pick in 2008, failed to make an impact last season as a rookie and isn't off to a great start in 2009. The team has said encouraging things about him, but observes of his practices tell a different tale. If anyone can get him going, it's Rex Ryan, but so far Gholston looks far from sharp.

The News
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, first-round draft pick Jason Smith is expected to start on opening day.
Our View
Smith is extremely talented, not to mention the fact that the Rams are paying him a bundle, so it doesn't make sense to sit him. June 30, 2009
The News
Fourth-round pick Gerald McRath has agreed to a deal with the Titans, according to their official team website. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

McRath needs to add bulk for the NFL, and needs to work on his consistency as a tackler, but possesses good speed and range, and could push for playing time down the road if he takes care of his weaknesses.
