  |   It’s not very often that two of the NFL’s biggest names get traded within 24 hours of one another, but lucky us - it happened this week, as Washington acquired Pro Bowl defensive end Jason Taylor, and New Orleans saved Jeremy Shockey from a situation he did not want to be in. In this week’s stock market report, find out why fantasy owners of Taylor and Shockey should be just as happy about the moves.
Rising - Jeremy Shockey, Saints TE - Once a disgruntled whiner who could never reach his prime, now Shockey is absolutely primed to become one of fantasy football’s top tight ends. That’s right folks, a trade that sent him to the New Orleans Saints now puts him in position to catch 85-95 balls in 2008. Sean Payton will absolutely feature him as a pass catching wide receiver of a TE, not a blocker. This is HUGE news for his fantasy owners, as Shockey will now become one of the most sought after TEs in seasonal drafts. His dynasty owners should be jumping up and down on their beds with excitement.
Rising - Kevin Boss, Giants TE (and Steve Smith, Giants WR) - You guessed it, the 6′7″ second year man who held his own filling in for Shockey last year, now gets even more of an opportunity to shine. Boss won’t be the only one who will benefit from Shockey being dealt, as second year WR Steve Smith, who is perfect for the full time slot role in New York, will now see plenty more balls thrown his way.
Rising - Kevin Jones, Bears RB - The Bears felt comfortable enough to sign 25 year old RB Kevin Jones last week, and we believe he’ll compete with rookie Matt Forte for the starting gig. While Forte is the front runner, don’t count Jones out, as the former 1,000 yard rusher is now apparently completely healthy. We’re fully expecting a splittsville type of situation here, and for KJ to have solid value as an RB4 in deep leagues. This move doesn’t necessarily mean that Forte’s stock is falling, but it definitely means he’ll come much cheaper in seasonal drafts. He loses absolutely no dynasty luster, however, due to the fact that Jones is likely in Chi-town for only one year.
Rising - Chris Henry, Free Agent WR - Believe it or not, the fact that free agent WR Chris Henry was acquitted is great for his fantasy value. The probability that the former Bengals pass catcher signs on somewhere is pretty high now, and he’s unlikely to face league punishment. Deep dynasty owners should definitely keep their eyes on Henry. His seasonal value is minimal at this point, mainly because he isn’t currently on an NFL roster. Expect that to change soon.
Rising - Ricky Williams, Dolphins RB - Okay, the 31 year old Williams continues to draw praise from his coaches, and he is now officially on the seasonal fantasy radar heading into 2008. Ronnie Brown is still the guy, but Williams is worth taking as a late round flier in deep formats, as Miami will pound the rock enough to make both backs happy.
Falling - Jerry Porter, Jaguars WR - Even though he’ll likely be ready for Week 1, the fact that Jags WR Jerry Porter has to undergo surgery for a torn hammy is not a good sign for his fantasy value in 2008. There is serious reason to be skeptical of him now, as this injury could nag him for the entire season. Also, precious preparation time is being missed, and even if he does come back healthy, it’ll take some time to gel with QB David Garrard. Proceed with caution when considering Porter.
Falling - Jacoby Jones, Texans WR - Once a very promising dynasty WR prospect, Houston Texans WR Jacoby Jones now looks to be fighting for the number four WR spot in Houston heading into 2008. He may be destined to be a career return man, which would be a total waste of talent from a fantasy perspective. He’s still worth following, but not worth counting on by any stretch of the imagination.
