New York Jets QB Battle “Dead Even”

Rotoworld says that according to the New York Daily News, the New York Jets QB battle is “dead even” between Kellen Clemens and Chad Pennington, but not necessarily in a good way.

It seems that Clemens has been a bit disappointing in that he’s really done nothing to separate himself from from Pennington. Apparently Pennington really wants to start, but really needs to step up his game on the field in 2008 in order to keep his job.

Our money is on Pennington winning the battle right now, especially behind a revamped offensive line.

Jets Grab Erik Ainge In Round Five…

The New York Jets drafted Tennessee QB Erik Ainge at the end of the fifth round, after not addressing the position previously in the NFL Draft. Ainge will likely make the squad, and could possibly compete for playing time if Chad Pennington continues to be sub-par, and Kellen Clemens doesn’t work out.

Ainge has a big arm, and at 6′6″, he’s always been considered a solid pro prospect. In fact, the Jets may have waited on a QB because they knew he’d be avaialble late.

Chad Pennington To Be Dealt…

There are many sources that believe the Jets could deal Chad Pennington on draft day. The Jets are definitely eyeing Matt Ryan with the sixth overall pick, and are likely to select a potential starting signal caller early on even if they pass on Ryan.

Since the squad only carries two QBs, either Pennington or Kellen Clemens would likely go, and Pennington has more trade value at this point.

Gates’ Injury Worse Than Most Think?

Do dynasty owners of Antonio Gates have cause for concern this season? Our sources tell us that he’s still not right after suffering a major toe injury during the playoffs in January. He was able to play in the AFC Championship game against New England, but the injury has all the makings of being something that nags him throughout all of 2008. Owners should monitor this situation carefully, as turf toe has much worse implications than most realize. Ryan Draws Interest From `Phins & Jets

Boston College QB Matt Ryan has worked out for the Dolphins and Jets, and is expected to also visit Kansas City.  The fact that all of these teams select within the top 10 of the NFL Draft gives us confidence he’ll be selected very high.  We like Ryan as a solid pro prospect that could have some fantasy value by 2009 or 2010.
