Derrick Harvey’s Role Undetermined…
May 8, 2008
What would you say if I told you a team traded up 18 spots in the first round to draft a defensive end, and then told the media that he’d have a “limited” role? You’re scratching your head, aren’t you?
Well, that’s what the Jacksonville Jaguars are saying about first round pick Derrick Harvey. He has a freaking solid shot at being the next great IDP DE, but his defensive line coach is saying he’ll be limited to pass-rushing situations only.
Well, if this is the case, fantasy owners shouldn’t fret too much, as the role certainly worked well for Robert Mathis in 2005 and Mark Anderson in 2006.
Seasonal Rookie Rankings
May 2, 2008
The fantasy value of NFL rookies seems to be misunderstood. In seasonal drafts, owners that can separate the young studs from the duds, are much more likely to bring home their fantasy title. Don’t be confused though, the difference between evaluating the fantasy value of NFL rookies in dynasty leagues and seasonal leagues is vast. Dynasty league owners must look years into the future, and prognosticate the value of certain running backs and WRs, who may enter 2008 as low as second or third on the depth chart at their position. Jags Trade For 8; Select Derrick Harvey…
April 26, 2008
NFL Network’s Mike Mayock is a freaking God right now. He not only predicted the first five picks in the NFL Draft, but he he-manned himself into predicting the two trades at seven and eight.
Now, to Harvey - the pass rushing DE from Florida gives the Jags something they haven’t had in a while. Gregg Williams will love this guy, and will send him after opposing QBs constantly.
We really like Harvey as a fantasy IDP option in leagues that require starters at DE.
Detroit Lions Draft Plans…
April 25, 2008
Could Matt Millen and the Detroit Lions actually end up having a halfway decent plan of attack entering this year’s NFL Draft?
Apparently they are looking at taking Florida DE Derrick Harvey with the 15th overall pick, with Tennessee LB Jerod Mayo as a fallback option, even though we’re hearing Mayo could go as early as 7th overall to New England.
A great pick would be Vandy’s Chris Williams, but at least they’re not considering really taking an RB in round one anymore.
We hear they want Texas’ Jamaal Charles in the second round.
Discuss this more in our forums.
Jason Taylor Makes Demands…
April 23, 2008
Word is that Jason Taylor will threated to retire if he’s traded to a non-contender. He’ll also demand a new contract from any team he’s dealt to.
Okay, so this implies that he’s going to get traded. Miami is expected to make some moves and try and get back into the first round on Saturday to pick U-M QB Chad Henne, Auburn OLB/DE Quentin Groves or Florida DE Derrick Harvey.
A trade out of Miami to a true 4-3 team might be great for Taylor’s fantasy value.
