Drafting TEs Back-To-Back
July 23, 2008
Some fantasy leagues have an RB/WR/TE flex position. In one of my most recent expert league drafts, I used a strategy to take advantage of this starting line-up quirk. With the first overall pick, I took my guy, Adrian Peterson, followed by WR-combo Marques Colston and Steve Smith in rounds two and three. Then, I did something extremely unconventional in rounds four and five. Read more
Fantasy Impact: Todd Heap
July 17, 2008
Fantasy football draft guides and player rankings are definitely an important part of preparing for the upcoming fantasy football season - no question. However, it’s important to take an in-depth look at some players who may outperform where they are ranked. For the record, we believe Baltimore’s Todd Heap falls in that category. Read more
Kellen Winslow To Sign New Deal Soon…
June 13, 2008
All indications are that Browns TE Kellen Winslow will get a new deal done with the Cleveland Browns very soon. Winslow has been looking for a lucrative contract extension all off-season.
Rotoworld reports that Winslow’s agent Drew Rosenhaus has been in contact with the Browns recently about a new deal.
See where Winslow ranks in our top TEs for 2008.
Jeremy Shockey Still Unhappy…
June 12, 2008
CBSSports.com is reporting that Jeremy Shockey stayed inside during all portions of practice today, and did not talk to the media. Shockey recently vented at a charity event about the Giants organization.
Is it a coincidence that all of Drew Rosenhaus’ boys are acting up right now? Shockey and Chad Johnson are in virtually identical situations, nursing fake injuries and using them as an excuse to sit out and pout at mandatory practices.
Who really cares though? In the end, both of these guys will start Week 1 for their respective teams and fantasy owners will forget all of this drama.
Kellen Winslow Looks Great In Practice…
June 11, 2008
We’ve been extremely confident in the health of Browns TE Kellen Winslow for quite some time now and we have not waivered on our stance. He is our second overall tight end in most formats, and will improve upon his numbers yet again in 2008.
Winslow returned to Browns practice yesterday, but took part in several drills today, and reportedly caught a 40 yard TD pass from Brady Quinn. Consider Winslow a full go in all formats, and he’s worthy of a late fourth to early fifth round pick in PPR leagues.
Gates No Longer Top Fantasy TE
June 11, 2008
Folks, it’s time to come to grips with the fact that 2008 is the year where there is not enough differential between Antonio Gates and the other members of fantasy football’s top tier of tight ends, to warrant taking him in rounds three, four or five of fantasy drafts. We’re hearing that his toe injury that he suffered back in January is still giving him plenty of problems, and that he may miss the start of training camp. Read more
Kellen Winslow To Report Today…
June 10, 2008
Word is that Browns TE Kellen Winslow will report to Browns mandatory mini-camp today. Winslow has been recovery from an off-season procedure to clean up some things in his knees. We have no worries about Winslow’s status heading into 2008. We believe he’ll be totally healthy, and the fact that he plays in one of the NFL’s most up and coming, explosive offenses, makes him a top two TE in all formats.
John Carlson To Start In Seattle…
June 6, 2008
Word is that Seahawks second round pick, Notre Dame TE John Carlson, will become the first rookie TE ever to start for head coach Mike Holmgren. The TE plays such a big role in Seattle’s offense, that Carlson is definitely worth watching, especially in deep keeper and dynasty formats.
Tony Scheffler Injury Update…
June 6, 2008
Broncos third year TE Tony Scheffler is confident that he’ll absolutely be 100 percent healthy and ready to go for training camp, after re-injuring the bone in his left foot that was broken last year at this time. Scheffler said it was a bit scary at first, because he “heard a pop,” but now he feels much better and may even try to give it a go in June mini-camps.
Scheffler is a solid TE1 prospect if he can stay healthy.
Jeremy Shockey Will Report To Mini-Camp…
June 6, 2008
After giving the impression that he was unhappy and wanted out of New York, it appears Jeremy Shockey will report to Giants mandatory mini-camp in mid-June. We all know Shockey is one of the league’s most talented tight ends, but he’s never really been able to put it all together mentally and have a standout season. We think maybe the Giants winning the Super Bowl was just the slice of humble pie that Shockey needed to re-focus and come back strong.
We expect big things from him in a much-improved Giants offense in 2008. He’s reportedly fully recovered from the broken leg that ended his season.
Jerramy Stevens Suspended Two Games…
June 3, 2008
Oft-troubled Buccaneers TE Jerramy Stevens will likely be suspended two games by the NFL for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
Stevens had limited fantasy value in deep leagues before this news, and now he definitely loses some luster.
Tony Scheffler Injury Update…
May 28, 2008
Word is that Broncos TE Tony Scheffler will have his walking boot removed on Monday, but will likely sit out practices until at least mid-June.
He’ll definitely be ready by training camp, and should be a solid value mid in the late rounds of seasonal leagues. If he can stay healthy in 2008, he’s a solid TE1.
