Week 3 Waiver Help: Who To Add
September 17, 2008
Chances are, you may have heard the name Chansi Stuckey at some point over the last six to eight weeks. If not during the preseason, when he played a major role in helping acclimate veteran Brett Favre to the Jets, then surely recently, when he’s hauled in TDs in each of the first two weeks of the 2008 NFL season. Fantasy Impact: Bryant Johnson
July 15, 2008
Fantasy football draft guides and player rankings are definitely an important part of preparing for the upcoming fantasy football season - no question. However, it’s important to take an in-depth look at some players who may outperform where they are ranked. For the record, we believe San Francisco’s Bryant Johnson falls in that category. Read more
Pierre Thomas To Contribute In 2008?
July 14, 2008
Our sources are extremely high on New Orleans Saints back-up running back Pierre Thomas heading into 2008. Even though Deuce McAllister appears likely to be healthy enough to regain the starting role heading into Week 1, and Reggie Bush has a fire lit like never before, find out why Thomas has a fantasy football future. Bryant Johnson To Be Niners WR1…
June 20, 2008
Word out of 49ers practice all off-season is that 26 year old 6′3″ free agent acquisition Bryant Johnson has been working with the 49ers first team offense consistently, and that the former Arizona Cardinal will be given every opportunity to be the team’s number one wide receiver in 2008.
No-Offseason Take: Johnson absolutely has the skill set to be a fantasy weapon, especially in Mike Martz’s offense. The fact that they haven’t brought in any other WRs to challenge for his post tells us that they’re very confident in his ability. Expect him to start opposite Isaac Bruce, with Arnaz Battle and Jason Hill playing roles as third and fourth WRs. Right now, it appears Alex Smith is the front runner for QB duties, and if he can perform well, Johnson - a former top 20 overall pick in the NFL Draft - will finally start reaching that first round potential.
Alex Smith Taking The Lead For 49ers…
June 19, 2008
San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan is mum regarding who his starting QB is for 2008, however, it sure seems like fourth year man Alex Smith is taking the lead. He appears to have quickened his delivery under Mike Martz, and has drawn rave reviews from Nolan recently. Meanwhile, his main competition - Shaun Hill - hasn’t really impressed in practice.
Nolan recently admitted that Hill is more of a gamer than someone who impresses in practice, but the fact of the matter is that this increases Smith’s changes greatly of winning the gig - and, as we’ve said before - whoever wins this gig will be very fantasy worthy under Martz.
Arnaz Battle Is Pouting About Role…
June 4, 2008
Word is that the reason why 49ers WR Arnaz Battle hasn’t been present at recent OTAs, is because he’s not happy with his role in the team’s offense. What’s not to like about the slot role in a Mike Martz offense?
Freaking Mike Furrey caught 98 balls two years ago, and Shaun McDonald came out of nowhere to haul in 79 passes last year. Battle could be fantasy worthy in 2008 if he gets his head out of his butt and shows up to practice.
Also, don’t forget about TE Vernon Davis, who would definitely benefit from a Battle breakdown. For now, the most exciting WR in the 49ers offense appears to be 26 year old Bryant Johnson, who we’re starting to think could become this year’s breakout pass catcher.
NFL’s Most Improved Offenses
May 25, 2008
What are Mike Martz and Alex Smith doing in San Francisco, you ask? Only brewing up one of the NFL’s most revived and improved offenses in 2008. Martz brings with him a history of getting several wide receivers involved in the offense, developing one stud QB, and increasing the PPR value of his RBs. Read more
‘Skins Thomas Could Start As A Rookie
May 21, 2008
We’ve jocked Devin Thomas for a long time, and based on recent news from our sources, we’ll be jocking him even more leading up to the 2008 NFL season. Our sources close to the former Michigan State Spartan tell us that Redskins coach Jim Zorn absolutely loves what he brings to the offense, and plans to use him in a variety of ways in 2008. Shaun McDonald Sits Out Mini-Camp…
May 20, 2008
Detroit Lions WR Shaun McDonald, who caught 70+ passes last season for 900+ yards, underwent knee surgery that is causing him to miss mini-camp. The coaches say he’ll be ready for training camp, but it doesn’t matter. McDonald won’t have any fantasy value in 2008 now that Mike Martz is in San Francisco.
Bryant Johnson - Breakout Fantasy Stud…
May 10, 2008
As we expected, 26 year old 6′3″ WR Bryant Johnson opened up 49ers practices as the team’s number one WR. We believe Johnson, a former first round pick just entering his prime, has Roy Williams ability in Mike Martz’s offense. Isaac Bruce opened as the starter across from Johnson, and Arnaz Battle took the top slot role - one that usually produces a minimum of 70 catches. Expect all three WRs to be fantasy-worthy in 2008.
Mini-Camp Position Battles
May 8, 2008
From a fantasy football owner’s perspective, it may not seem like mini-camp means a whole lot. Many players are nursing minor injuries that won’t really affect them during the season, while other veterans actually elect to work out elsewhere - or in Tony Romo and Jason Taylor’s case - pursue other interests completely. But, there are a few position battles going on in mini-camps near you, which we believe will have an impact on fantasy football in 2008. Read more
Michael Robinson To Be Involved…
May 5, 2008
Apparently new 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Martz really likes what he sees from Michael Robinson, a former QB at Penn State turned RB for San Francisco. Martz is planning on making him into a fullback type player, and putting him in the backfield with Frank Gore. Robinson is a solid pass catcher out of the backfield, and can flourish in this role.
He likely won’t be a fantasy option, but is someone to monitor.
