Top Sports Card Buys Of The Week (July 24-31)

Ep. 92 Buy Recommendations Each week on the Sports Card Strategy Show, we talk about the top sports cards to buy. We break down those buys further here at NoOffseason.com 1. Vladimir Guerrero Jr - 2016 Bowman Chrome Prospects (1st) Our first buy recommendation is Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s 2016 Bowman Chrome Prospects in PSA 10. These are readily available, and have sold at an average price of $103 over the last 30 days. While Guerrero Jr is slugging a career low .433 with just 15 home runs, there are more advanced stats to be cognizant of that may be more telling to how he is truly swinging the bat. Guerrero Jr.’s average exit velocity is actually higher than it was in his 2021 season where he touted 48 home runs, pair that with a hard hit rate of almost 60%, and Guerrero Jr’s numbers tell us he is more than due to find more success in traditionally followed stat fields as the playoff race heats up. Look to buy these within the next month or so in hopes of Guerrero Jr. and the Blue Jays making a strong wild card push and catching heat during the playoffs for a quick-turn profit. Even if things don’t pan out that way, buying Guerrero Jr. provides high long term upside without sacrificing floor value, if Guerrero can continue to build on his family’s storied MLB legacy he’s looking at a Hall of Fame career. 2. Patrick Mahomes - RC’s, Parallels, and Inserts While Mahomes might not be the most traditionally advantageous buy right now, he sits as our second recommendation on our list, but with a contingency. The 27-year-old quarterback is slated to have one of the most historic NFL careers assuming his longevity is there, and his market remains hot for collectors. However, for those able to make it to card shows or hobby shops, Mahomes upside is there if you’re able to find deals in value boxes or bulk at a lower price. Mahomes prices have historically gone up during each NFL season, and could be a good option to buy now as the Chiefs look to make yet another impressive playoff push led by their star quarterback. A good example to find would be Mahomes’ 2017 Optic Pink, which is down in pricing 9.3% over the last 30 days. If the 2023-2024 campaign isn’t a strong season for the Chiefs and their questionable receiving corps, you’re still looking at adding a long-term lock in Mahomes. 3. Roki Sasaki: 2022 Bowman NPB Refractor #133 One of the most interesting picks in today’s list comes from a player outside of the United States professional sports realm. Sasaki is a Japanese League pitching phenom, with some of the filthiest pitch mix we’ve seen from someone his age. While Sasaki won’t be able to make the switch to the MLB until 2027 due to his current contract, there are some strong buy-now options for the right-handed flamethrower. His 2022 Bowman NPB Refractor in raw is listed under $70, and would provide several times upside for traders, barring a decent grading. 4. Jackson Chourio: Bowman Sapphire Edition Chrome Prospects #BCP-79 Chourio, a 19-year-old outfielder in the Milwaukee Brewers organization, has proven to be an elite prospect and caught the leagues’ attention. He’s caught our attention as well, and we see Chourio as someone to potentially have Elle De La Cruz-type profit upside for those that can buy now ahead of anticipated call-ups. Chourio’s Sapphire Edition in PSA 10 is currently listed around $120, and this is a card we believe to still be listed at a discount. The emphasis here is to get in on him quickly, as the card is already up nearly 70% over the last two months. 5. Jerry Jeudy: 2020 Contenders Rookie Ticket Auto #106 Jerry Jeudy rounds off our list of strong buy opportunities. As he enters his fourth year, we believe the speedy receiver is due for a breakout year. It’s no secret that the Broncos had some serious offensive struggles last year, finishing dead last in both points scored and 3rd down conversion. Russell Wilson also had the worst year of his career in his debut season for the Broncos, yet Jeudy managed to still post respectable numbers, finishing with just under 1,000 yards receiving and adding 67 catches. Acquiring Sean Payton to steer the ship should have Broncos fans and Jeudy collectors alike extremely optimistic for a stellar performance from Jeudy, particularly with him being the #1 receiving option. Jeudy’s 2020 Rookie Ticket Auto cards in raw could be another advantageous buy-now option, selling for just $40 as recently as July 23rd. These cards have a 62% gem rate, and you can turn around and sell them instantly for over $100 with a good rating.
